Oh this thread again, goodie.

Paying taxes isn't the issue. If we were about to expand our economy, see higher wages and a comfortable and free society, it would be an honour to pay taxes. Except that isn't the way our system has been run.

Furthermore, we must always look at abuses of the system, and there are plenty. Some of them try to justify their existence on one hand while stealing with the other.

At any rate, if everybody paid the same taxes as the poorest taxpayer we'd be a third-world country.

Hogwash. Prior to 1918 Canada got along just fine without income taxes and if you folks were to pay off your debts and eschew excessive government you could get by without them again.

At least eleven countries in the world get by without income taxes so it is possible.

and yet all these taxes just aren't enough..after all we get lots of services don't we? Hum, I wonder when people will realize that just pumping more cash into budgets does not mean that more gets done. I think health care is a prime example, while I do think area's need more cash, it seems to be eaten into the endless monster of administrators and other non front line 'management'.

The population grows, it only makes sense that the cost of providing services to these people would also grow. Luckily the economy also grows so the problem should almost balance out, except successive governments -including Chretien, 2Cdo - squandered that with tax cuts.

Your tax rates have gone down, not up over the past 20 yrs, that's just a fact no matter how Fraser Institute wants to spin it.

so my property tax bill from 12 years ago was $1700 and is now $3400 is a DECREASE, man, all this time I must have been sniffing glue, because CLEARLY it went DOWN.
