I think if you're pushing for gun control and pretending you have the stats to support the need then you might want to address the problems in the regions where gun control has been implemented and is obviously not working.

If that doesn't interest you but you still want to use these recent tragedies to push for gun control (or be honest and simply say grabbing) you don't actually care about the numbers or the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of gun control measures. These recent mass shootings are nothing more to you than convenient.

This is just a guess on my part, but I suspect it's because the places that have the bans imposed them because their gun violence situation was completely out of control. I remember that, when I was a teen, Detroit and Chicago were no go zones for non residence people. Either the Cops or the bandits were going to give you a new orifice. A single treatment (gun ban) can't solve the problems of those places.

I remember my Dad telling me they used to fish people out of the Detroit River on the Windsor side with tear gas canister holes in them back in the 60's and 70's.

Walmart Inc. is removing displays of violent video games and movies in its stores as pressure mounts for the world’s largest retailer to act in the wake of two deadly shootings at its locations in Texas and Mississippi in recent weeks.
Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon this week said that the company will be “thoughtful and deliberate in our responses” to the shootings, which left 22 people dead in El Paso, and killed two employees at a store in Southaven, Mississippi.

back in the FAC days, when you needed no license people could buy guns online and have them shipped with no real checks, there were no mass shootings then. The guns have not changed but the people sure have..
There is no evidence that bans make anything better, drugs is good eg, prohibition is another. The UK is dealing with some of the most violence with firearms they have ever seen and there is an outright ban on anything other than single shot rifles and shotguns. And none of that gun crime is with those types of firearms.

This part is, to me, a key thing. Here in the US we talk about Mental Health a lot when these incidents happen but never expand funding or facilities to assist those that need help. Both political sides talk and talk but hardly a word is said about funding and facilities.

It's just coincidence that funding for mental health delined about the same time the population of homeless increased.
Yeah it was just a coincidence. Here it was very noticeable but over time those who lost their beds at the Mental hospital either moved on or a new site was found for them. Now it's for this area it is not so much people with mental health issues but those that have lost their jobs and houses. Along with a vast majority of people from other states that have come here looking for jobs. Once Austin was a booming job market but with current unemployment around 2.7% it's hard to find a job.

Not just funding but also housing which is part of founding. Back in the late 80s a lot of mental health facilities got their founding cut and had to kick patients out or out right closed. New places need to be built I'm sure and staff hired and so fourth.
But I do agree that we would see a reduction in mass killings I would hope even if only a slight drop that would be a good thing. If it was just a slight drop off in numbers we can look at other factors and address them. Maybe studies in the role of social interaction and or lack there of by shooters. There is a wide breadth of factors and studies that I think need to be done or addressed. Simply calling for more Gun Control is not an answer. Chicago is prof of that.

See, there we go again with the myth that the media has to be 'fair'. It has no obligation to be, it has an obligation to tell the truth.
And the CBC seems to be living in their head, rent free. They don't mention any other news organization in their conclusion, even though others are listed in their "study".
