Democrat of course.

I'm not so sure...

The African American population was Republican (the party that abolished slavery...for the record), up until the 60s when they had the "New Deal" and the African American population switched parties to the Democrats.

But the African American population has many conservative tendencies, such as:

A) School vouchers to send poor students to better schools
B) Blacks are generally socially conservative
C) Blacks are generally very Christian
D) Illegal Immigration (primarily Mexicans) is having a negative affect on the African American community

And the most important thing (no offense), generally - with obama - its easy to see African Americans support their own...why else would we have 75-80% of black voters going Obama?

So I believe if Colin Powell (respected by blacks and whites) was the VP partner with McCain and they emphasized conservative policies that resonated with the black population during the General Election campaign, you could see a revolutionary shake up in the Black vote.

Anyways thats my theory, and my dream plan would be:

Hillary/some other white person

vs.

McCain/Powell

Colin Powell would change the equation, but generally, African-Americans vote democratic.

Up until 2005, the GOP had made a dent in that voting bloc, but then they pissed it with the response to Katrina.

You're right about your pints, but that historically has mattered not. Africna-Americans switched parties in the 60's largely because the GOP became to be seen as the party of the old racist, slave-holding South no matter how apt, or unfair that is.

thats a no brainer... the US have had enough of Bush and the republicans to last 100 yrs.... so for the democrats its a shoe in.. beside the crap over the wars and 9/11... bush has put the US economy in the toilet... that will ensure a democrat win... just hope its hillary as Pres and Obama as Vice...

You ignored a crapload of what I said. I said that the Democrats went from a sure win to a close competition due to their own foolishness. When the actual race happens, McCain is just gonna use the dirt Hilary and Obama dug up on each other. You completely fail at reading.

Oh and Your_Dead, I do agree that Colin Powell/Rice ticket would be very powerful, but like I said, anything with even the remote connection with Bush starts up conspiracy theories and such, even with both of them being powerful and strong figures in both the party and the nation, however Clark is a Democrat, so I don't think Powell would choose him as his VP

Ya, but having a Moderate Dem, especially a General,as vice, would be a great way to mend the division in politics that has brought the government to a stand still, like really what is the last positive thing that has went through the legislative process...I cant think of any. Both parties are just too busy blocking each other.

What I would like to see is:

McCain/Powell ticket up against Hillary/another white person in November.

That would be huge...where would the black vote go...

I agree that would be a very powerful ticket, especially on foreign policy with both of them. However the black vote has usually gone Democratic since the 60s, and recent "injustices" (read: bullshit) like Katrina are turned into political games by "black leaders" like Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, and it would take a lot of town hall meetings and discussions with powerful black Republicans like Powell and Rice and others to make a dent in the Democrat control.

True..but I don't think Clark has that type of unifying power in the party, and that's IF he agrees to it, which he probably won't due to party affiliations. Plus this is asking Obama to have a moderate Republican at his running mate, it wouldn't happen.

well like I said this time round the democrats are a shoe in.. thanks to bush and his make war not love policies...... and hate to tell you but the blacks have been voting for white folks for a long time...

I think Obama would consider Chuck Hagel.

GOP and 4 more years, stick to Canadian politics at least you live there and you might have a clue of what’s going on.

Probably not with the little L you got there.

westmanguy @ Wed Mar 26, 2008 2:54 pm

Boy is kenmore going to be depressed when McCain wins it...

Sheesh though, when we look at the past list of Presidents.

From Election 1968 to present 28 of the last 40 years have been Republican (Jimmy Carter - 4 years, and Bill Clinton - 8 years, are the only Democrats)

Thats 70% of the last 40 years in the United States, has been a Republican President.

If John McCain gets elected that number just rises...

I think its safe to say, Americans traditionally like a Republican President, and a Democratic Congress (U.S. Congress has been Democratic most of the last 50 years except when the GOP took it in the 90s and kept it through the first half of Bush)

G-prime @ Wed Mar 26, 2008 7:28 pm

mcain must be pretty happy about this news since theres such a huge amount of people on either side. in fact it almost insured him the title. hillary and Obama are matched, add that to the small amount voting mcain and its larger. i mean 1000 vs 1000 vs 1.. you move the thousand over to the 1....youve got (barely) more than before. wow..what a stupid way for a president to win lol

YAY! VOTE WITH SPITE!

Makes sense

Conservative foreign policy and trade, liberal domestic policy. I would think that's how most major powers works, I don't believe Britain is much different...(Blair, Thatcher as examples)

sasquatch2 @ Wed Mar 26, 2008 10:01 pm

McCain has one big problem----the american voter is not stupid.

Given two liberals to vote for....they will vote for the real one....McCain is toast.

It will be a repeat of John Turner's famous defeat here.........

Hmmmm... I don't think FOX NEWS is really the most reliable source... I think once a leader is chosen, some amens will be made. I dought they will self destruct...

bootlegga @ Fri Mar 28, 2008 2:08 pm

I like McCain myself. The hatchet job done on him the last time he ran for the nom was downright uncalled for. I think Hillary or Obama might do okay, but I prefer a more seasoned leader running things down there. I think the best bet for the Dems would be to have a Hillary/Obama ticket (who pres and VP they would have to figure out). They both have huge egos and wouldn't much like being second fiddle to the other.
