On that point we agree. But you're wrong about dual-citizenship. The USA doen't recognize such a thing.

Akhenaten @ Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:26 am

Well yeah it does. I just gave you the link. True they call it dual nationality but that's no different. The point I was trying to make though was closer to Edwards post.

Yes it is different.

And I agree with that point. If the Cons' ads took that line, I'd support it. Instead, they twist the fact that the guy was smart enough to get hired by Harvard into something anti-Canadian. That line is for the troglodytes that parrots the shit they see on television attack ads.

How? Especially within context of the discussion. I don't see how it's not functionally the exact same thing.

gonavy47 @ Thu Sep 10, 2009 10:21 am

Would you vote for someone who has lived outside this country for a dozen years, who has no discernable platform, other than banding together with the Bloc and NDP to gain power. Someone who would raise taxes, as all liberal governments have done, to pay for more unneeded, and misguided programs, ie: gun registry. OR Check the FACTS and then form an opinion.
If that's a parrot, then pass me a f&@king cracker!

1) Living outside the country has no bearing on anything. I've worked in three countries over a "dozen" years and it certainly doesn’t make me any less a Canadian. It paid well and made me successful.

2) I'll wait for a reason for a Liberal platform before forming an opinion.

3) If Harper can't get along with anyone in the house, the opposition parties are going to OPPOSE. What do you expect?

4) And Conservatives have a long history of putting the country deeply in debt. That's better?

5) Here's your cracker, cracker.

Oh come on now. Opposition parties oppose. That's what they do. "Getting along with Harper" doesn't enter into it. If the offical opposition throws up opposition simply because they don't get along with/like the PM it would be the first time in history.

I beg to differ on that point. The people presently in the house have shown themselves to be prone to nasty personal oriented attacks. That has completely derailed the way the house is supposed to work. With Harper being in the lead in that style of partisan hyena-ism, he’s made it personal.

Bullshit. It's not the first time 'attack ads' have been run by the incumbent party (or the offical opposition) and the 'derailing' of the way the house is supposed to work sure as heck didn't start in the last couple of years. it's been this way fgor as long as I can remember. You act like Harper invented the 'attack ad'. He didn't. What about the Liberal "Harper=Bush" attacks from just a couple of years ago? Martins ads? Chrétien ads?

Opposition parties oppose - that's their job. It's what they are supposed to do. They have since forever. 'Attack ads' don't enter into it.

I'd like to suggest your memory is somewhat flawed, or doesn't go back far enough to form a valid opinion.

Akhenaten @ Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:14 am

LOL! yeah ok. You're right. Before harper came along Opposition and ruling parties got along fine. No one ever made an attack ad before Harper came along. And before Harper the oppositions' willingness to work with the ruling party always had a lot to do with how much they liked him.

Sorry but you're too smart to be this stupid. Subsequently I know you know better.

EdwardRI @ Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:16 am

Remember the 06 federal election ads?

I remember when this video captured the spirit of the Liberal Party attack ads:

In the 2006 federal election in Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada used attack ads against Conservative Party of Canada leader Stephen Harper. The Liberals, trailing in polls during the last weeks, resorted to strong and often questionable negative ads directed towards the Conservative party, by attempting to depict Harper as an extreme right-wing politician, though the advertisements did not prevent a Conservative victory.

Nothing wrong with my memory.

It's "bullshit" because the guy left Canada for professional reasons. We don't call NHL-ers playing in the USA "Americans"?

Lol. Uh, 'cept they don't leave for 12 years.

Sure they do. Raymond Bourque spent his entire career (20+ years) playing in the US. Gretzky played longer in the US than in Canada and still resides there. That's just two examples of hundreds (maybe even thousands) of NHLers.

I conceed the point. When they run as leader for a party that has been accusing Harper of being an American/Bush/Bush-ass-kisser you just let me know though, ok?

One look at Iggy's resume will tell you right away why they've cooled that rhetoric off.
