I think everyone saw this coming, but I am still a little shocked at the limited number of jets. I would expect to have more than 100.

Is 80 really enough?

GreatBriton @ Wed Jun 27, 2007 9:23 am

The RAF recently bought 232 Eurofighters.

Why doesn't Canada buy some?

"Eurofighters."

You answered your own question

Saudi Arabia has got 72 of them.

I'm not sure? Some think maybe the F-35 will be better?

Canada purchase 122 F-18.... a lot of them where twin seats.

80 is more than sufficient for Canada's needs.

What I find disturbing, is that Canada will purchase a single engine bird. THe sole reason, why Canada purchased the F-18 is because they have 2 engines 8O

Says it all right there...

What's wrong with you?

All I'm saying is that why doesn't Canada buy some Eurofighters? Non-Europeans are eligible to buy them.

(If you do, just buy them off Britain like the Saudis did to make us a bit of cash £££££££££).

Canada doesn't need inferior aircraft, if we want new ones we'll buy from the States where they can actually fix the product they design and share the gravy with Canadian Avionics countries as a bonus.

By the way Brit how many millions in kick backs did the Brits give the Saudi Royals? Oh that's right no investigation and it was the oil scam not aircraft.

Stop egging him... the TYPHOON is a great plane. I would prefer to see us purchase the Typhoon over the F-35.

The last time we shopped for fighters the LIBRANOs followed the advice of their hair-dressers and purchased the CF18 because they thought it was cheap.

They used the argument that with two engines it was more reliable than the single engined F16. The F18/CF18 has had many doubled flame-outs and the F16 has had few. The F18 never met it's performance goals and it's range was never attained.......Currently most of our F18's are tactically useless due to the LIBRANOs lack of military funding, made needed updates impossible.

Those updates would have exposed the inferior Canadian supplied avionics, provided by LIBRANO connections.

THE JSF meets our requirements better than the euro-fighter......

The eurofighter is supported by the usual suspects which dooms it IMHO.

The euro fighter is ready now... the F-35 is not.

Canadian_Mind @ Wed Jun 27, 2007 11:07 am

Mario, I agree with you that the Euro-fighter is a better aircraft, however I do not agree that 80 is enough.

250 should be considered a miimum to protect our country aswell as support deployments abroad.

reasons why I like euro0fighter over JSF:

Similar range, Eurofighters have a greater climb and turn rate, twin engines, and a much greater weapons capacity.

While the JSF is stealthier, when you are in an aircraft that can out-turn and out-climb a missle, who needs stealth?

Also, hasn't Canada already invested a few million in the research of the JSF?
