Hum, not sure Hollywood is going to accomodate less than 4 million "francophone" viewers who don't really speak french. They speach quebecois. From my stand point, coming from a nation that is supposed to value the rights of the minority as much as the majority the francophones have alot to learn about respecting even English in that province. For them to expect a Qc quebecois language dub "just" for them is someone egocentric..no?

I don't really complain about English films and say I want it in American.....

ShepherdsDog @ Wed Jun 13, 2007 8:37 pm

Amazing......this time they're bitching about people speaking proper French

Do I read correctly, that Quebecers want Hollywood to dub it in Quebecois?

We dub Hollywood movies to Dutch ourselves (or subtitle it), so what is the point here??? Why can't they do it themselves?

I am confused :?

Think how we feel Brenda and we have grown up with it........... LOL

And that is the question that we all arive at when dealing with Quebec.

This is just more stupid anti-Americansim and misguided nationalism.

Clogeroo @ Thu Jun 14, 2007 6:07 am

Maybe Quebec should just learn how to speak English?

Tokimini @ Thu Jun 14, 2007 6:34 am

What with all the film piracy going on in Canada, mostly in Quebec, I think Hollywood is about ready to say the hell with Canada anyway.

Well, I must admit that Parisian french IS really hard to understand and follow sometimes...and they're humour's just plain boring. Although, I can't stand listening to a dubbed movie anyway and my first language is french. It's just not the same. The jokes aren't always the same or as funny (wether dubbed in Fr or Qc), the voices just don't go with the actors....it's just weird.

With this said, I do still agree that it should be dubbed in Qc if it's meant for a Qc audience. The same way a movie should be dubbed in NFLD if it's meant for that audience....(Just kidding...just kidding) lol

unless the province creates another one of it's own departments for "Qc" translation of movies, it isn't going to happen.

While I understand the Francophone's pride in their culture and history lets face it, IF less than 4 million people NEED constant rules and special support to keep the culture alive then it isn't worth it.

My point is just this, IF it is a truly strong culture etc then it will survive on its own. Just like any other minority in this nation, things that have value will survive and do not need to be propped up by the government.

I once heard a popular Qc comedian make a comment when asked about special status for Qc he said "we are 4 million francophone's surrounded by 300 million anglophones, something needs to be done"

I think that sums it up pretty nicely but not in a positive way. Franco phones are a minority, just like any other minority. We can't afford or support ALL minorities and fund them to be "special" or different...

Isn't this an opportunity for commercial companies then? I mean, why would the government (provincial or national) be any party in this?

What do all the Quebecois speak when they're in Florida for the winter?
