George Floyd's death sparks protests across U.S.

The capital is on fire, the president is hiding in a bunker, numerous major cities are protesting the security forces, a pandemic is spreading fast killing 100k, unemployed is 40 million, if Trump was the leader of a middle eastern country what point would the US demand he step down?

america, the richest and most advanced democracy in the world
Saw a great comment last night that the US federal government has so much money it can afford to give military-grade equipment to local PD for nothing but during a pandemic public hospitals had to crowdfund donations to get PPE in order to prevent the nurses and staffers from getting COVID and dying.

And what other famed historical piece of shit, notable only for being a figure of pure malice, also took to hiding in a bunker when someone he'd pissed off came knocking on the door to call him out for his behaviour?

Hmmm. January to late April 1945? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Drumph? Anyone?

Way too much going down right now.
It's hard to wrap your head around it all.

Yeah. The old saying “may you live in interesting times”, truly is a curse.

As per one Comedian aka Edward Blake,

Something grand and formerly inspirational is dying right in front of us, basically murdered by the twin demons of malice and greed. This is worse in so many ways than Sept 11 was, simply because they're doing it to each other for no more reason than they just don't like each other. "Can't we all just get along?". No, apparently we can't.

My view is that the United States and its allies "won" the Cold War when the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact collapsed, but lost the peace. Let's face it. The threat of mutually assured destruction from a tangible enemy (not an amorphous one like Islamic extremism) was an effective distraction from the structural problems of the system. Decadence and complacency have set in after nearly three decades and the West is now eating itself alive due to intense self-loathing. As goes the United States so will the rest of western civilization.

Who don't like each other?

Anybody who claims these riots aren't about a blatant attempt to bring down the system and gov't need to wake up and smell the roses. If it was about police abuse like they're trying to claim we would have seen the same types of reactions that we saw after Ferguson, NY, LA and Baltimore when this woman was murdered back in 2017.
But we saw nada nothing zip. No riots, no protests, no BLM or Antifa rioting and attacking anything. So what other possible excuse could these rioters have for taking George Floyds tragic and unnecessary death to these extremes?
Except you did. Every time this happens the goal posts for what is acceptable under the overton window get shifted. What you are not accepting is that shift in cultural norms comes at a cost. Every time a black man gets killed by cop and NOTHING gets done there is a cost to that and it builds up like a plaque. So when you go back to 'normal' this is building up like a ticking time bomb and when the flood gates inevitably release this is the result.
It's not like there were not warnings and opportunities to address this, there were countless examples where there could have been meaningful reform. Every time it got shot down and the egregious issues get put to the back burner to be ignored. Now, we are LONG past that point and to fix this will be WAY more expensive and dangerous than it ever needed to be. Many will die for the callous attitude of the state being 'good enough' for too long.
Who knows, maybe the next time a cop kills a guy for being black and it being recorded we won't have riots in 75 cities but what has been done? All I see is racist tweets by Trump and zero action. No idea as to WHY the nation is on fire. So I can't see this simmering down anytime soon.
What action do you think should be taken? Who should be doing what?

I agree with that. If the US goes then that leaves the rest of us open to get mopped up by whatever next world threat is out there. China? Maybe, but they don't have much of a history of warring outside their immediate region. Russia? Doubtful. Despite Putin's nonsense their strength is mostly pretend, a bunch of fake nationalistic caterwauling designed to scare anyone not paying attention to how hollow their military and society actually are.
What threatens us, if it comes down to it someday, is right next door. Trump is the worst there's ever been but that doesn't mean that someone much worse than him won't come along. And I doubt it'll be some street commie who got his start smashing windows and looting a Target store. If there's this kind of viciousness settled into American police forces, a viciousness Trump openly encourages, then odds are high that the same sort of thing had settled into the armed forces. Aside from a Constitution that no one seems to be giving much regard to anymore, and a few trifles like the Posse Comitatus Act, what is there to really stop a violent authoritarian junta from forming inside the US military? One that will assuredly be allied with the Wall Street criminals and with hyper-reactionary and totalitarian Christianist conservatism? And given how badly government has failed, after decades of being sabotaged deliberately by modern conservatism, who can say that harsh military rule that crushes dissent won't be incredibly popular at the outset if it accomplishes the "mere" task of restoring order & safety?
Odds are these riots will be an afterthought in a week. But that doesn't eliminate the danger of what's next. The beast of civil violence has been unleashed and won't be stuffed back in it's cage that easily. Both the upcoming DNC/RNC conventions and the general election itself can quite easily be turned into targets/excuses for more violence, if not an outright
coup d'etat by the Trumpists if the vote turns against them. The worst is most likely yet to come, and sooner than anyone wants to believe.
