"People with shcizophrenia do not think and have poor judgement into their illness. "
Then why are they entrusted with their own treatment? I know a schizophrenic who stopped taking his meds because ‘the Voice’ told him to and then one night he cut off his balls with a kitchen knife. If he was being watched/institutionalized this wouldn’t have happened.
100% true story.
"I suggest you get a good text on mental illness and research the various pathologies. "
That's what we counted on the doctors for the first time he was in a psych ward for 4 days. They already released him and judged him a non-threat.
Its called rights.. and the mentally ill have them too.. you and I or anyone else cannot be forced to take treatment. Sounds unreal but its true. The only time they can be forced is if they are hospitalized and declared incompetent. This can be done but they can challenge it under the laws. Blood testing and urine testing is also a voluntary thing... In Ontario there is Brian's law which was put in place after a similar incident where a sports broadcaster was killed in Ottawa, the introduced community treatment orders but this too is a voluntary thing.

Crazy Canadian justice system... People literally get away with murder!!!!
He didn't. He's going to a mental hospital, possibly indefinitely.
and maybe not, he could be out in a week.
any plans to actually punish the guy for what he did ?
He wasn't sane when he did what he did - he's not criminally responsible.
I highly doubt he'll be out in a week.
Yogi Yogi:
Keep him alive. For what reason????
Because you don't just get to kill people. Isn't that what this is all about?

What about Tim's right to live?

This man should never walk the street again. I don't care if it's in a jail or a psychiatric facility. He needs to pay for taking that young mans life.
Well, he is going to a psychiatric facility, so I'd think you'd be satisfied.
Why would I be satisfied? Someone died needlessly.
And we are supposed to be satisfied with the RCMP killing innocent people by tasering them? They do it for pleasure this guy did it because he is mentally ill.
How do you rationalize the difference here?

The only problem with this is
possibly.A sane person who kills someone could be out in a couple years, what with statutory release, or even parole, based on a maximum 25 year sentence. This guy is going to have to show that he's no longer a threat - a tall order considering his history - if he wants to get out. And maybe he won't even want to. Sounds like in his lucid moment's he's pretty sickened by what he did.

But there is no guarantee he wont be out, maybe not in a week, but
3-4 years ?
and what about the rest of us ?

I realize your arguing with kenmore, but that's no excuse to be obtuse. Yes, Tim didn't deserve to die, let alone so horribly. But just because an act is sickening isn't reason to treat a human being like an animal. Li isn't sane. No sane person would do what he did. I would have thought that would be obvious.

If Canadians don't freak out about this, there is something wrong with us. The McLean family from Winnipeg deserves our support and outrage on this.
What if it was your family member? Think about the passengers on the bus too that witnessed this. OMG! Sad day in this country.
Is being outraged going to bring back Tim McLean from the dead?
From every thing I've searched, Vince Li just came to Canada from China in 2001 via a sponsor. Explain to me why you think we should have to pay now to look after this Chinese monster after he killed a Canadian so brutally?

First of all, no one is satisfied when a police officer kills someone needlessly. Secondly they didn't do it for pleasure and if you think so you are an idiot. I realize this man is a mental case but he killed someone and society needs to be protected from him, as much as he needs to pay for what he did.

Because he's Canadian now. Take your xenophobia elsewhere.

Seriously.
I cannot comprehend a single reason to keep Li alive. Does anyone really think that
his mental condition can be cured/controlled to the point that he will possibly be released back into society to be a contributing member.
Of course not! so that brings us right back to my question
Why keep him alive?

You are missing all my points. No, it's not but Tim's family and friends and the bus victims are still here. Are they not being considered? I think not.

Give me a break Hurley. How is forcing people to take their medication so they don't decapitate random people, treating them like animals?
