Kicked out of caucus too. Looks like CTV is reporting Jaffer was using her Email as well and that's a breach. Then there is the house in ottawa she got. Sounds like she and Jaffer were trying to get government contracts. We will see soon enough.

"The Right Honourable" my ass.

Ah, yes. As the Reformacons stay in power the same dirty little secrets will leak out, just like with the Liberals. There is no clean party in government, they all get corrupted. I wonder if Stevo's head will explode over this.

That story doesn't even mention her questionable mortgage.

This couple were like royalty in their riding. That is to say very powerful and influential but they were big fish in a small pond and their habits got them in trouble with the feds. I would have suspected that she would have simply been shuffled out in the next cabinet shuffle to keep this low key because her position was superficial in this government but having her booted and calling the RCMP means what happened last night in Harper's office was serious enough to warrant drastic action.

Should be interesting coupla weeks ahead.

There is no clean party because you can't control everyone in the party. Power corrupts.

if they have done anything wrong, let them hang. I have no sympathy for those who abuse the system for personal gain.

She's not a Reform party member, never was and never will be. What she happens to be is another one of the Mulroney faction that have the same entitlement complex that the Liberal Party of Canada seems to have.

Why would Harpers head explode over this? Having scumbag members of parliment in your party is a common occurance in Ottawa, just ask Cretien about Alphonso?

Come to think of it, if it hadn't been for this attitude of entitlement in Ottawa by the Progressive Conservatives there would never have been a Reform Party. [huh]

No. She has the same entitlement party the CPC has now come to embody, the same entitlement you say the Liberals have.

Don't kid yourself that Harper is any different.

Quitting cabinet is a little like her husband pleading guilty to Careless Driving when he was charged with Impaired and Possession of a Dangerous Narcotic. Guergis needs to resign her seat IMMEDIATELY and let her riding elect someone with a shred of public credibility.

Thanos @ Fri Apr 09, 2010 10:58 pm

Always refreshing to see that Liberal partisans are just as good as Conservative ones at throwing that whole "innocent until proven guilty" idea under the bus. Some of you folks sound like you'd have made great guards at Abu Ghraib considering some of the things you all apparently believe about concepts like due process under the law.

Shit, not that I care anyway. Let the bile rise right to the top. The entire spectacle is endlessly fascinating.

Lemmy @ Fri Apr 09, 2010 11:04 pm

Well, there are a lot of us non-Liberals thinking this pair of clowns ought to be thrown under a bus.

Yeah, but let's maintain some perspective here first. Unlike, say, Alfonso Gagliano and the rest of the Liberal Adscam gang, there hasn't been any allegations thus far of illegal handovers of untraceable cash. There hasn't been any evidence that Jaffer had any influence at all in the PMO after he disgraced himself in the last election by being the only Alberta MP to actually manage to lose his riding. Stephen Harper might be Dr. Evil to some but there's probably no chance in Hell that he'd risk any damage at all to the PMO by doing anything to favour a goof-off yuppified loser like Rahim Jaffer.

Aside from the massive public embarssment of being asked/forced to resign and having her husband revealed to be a raging and reckless cokehead, there isn't much more that can be done to Guergis to wreck her career. Even if the RCMP investigation finds nothing illegal happened, she's still dead as a sitting candidate for the next election. And I'll bet that her riding association has a list of potential replacements ready right now to take her spot. Her life in Ottawa is finished. If there isn't anything that can prove any criminality then anything else that's done to her is merely overkill. Resignation in disgrace is traditionally punishment enough in this particular line of work.

You know I defend the rule of law and due process as very dear to my fundamental beliefs. I agree with all you've said, 100%. But I'm thinking that the Vegas odds on a "Corrupt Douchebag-couple face indictment" bet ain't gonna have big odds. Sometimes when it smells like a dirty bag of shit, it is.
