ziggy ziggy:

Your talking to a guy that has to pay EI but cant collect it,at least I know the libs wont be stealing it this time.

Except that Harper did in fact steal it and according to the complaint the RCMP got, much worse.

As for you not collecting EI, I don't see why not. I've been paying EI all my life and not once did I ever collect it but thats because I've always had a job or else been in school.

HERE we go again, dude, just because I dont post that this guy or that con is wrong doesnt mean I side with them, you do this constantly.
They have their opinion and I have mine, you seem to think I should be running them down for their opinion.

Then if you won't, I will because I'll be damned if I'm going to let somebody blame us Liberals for handing over billions to the auto companies without hitting back.

I cant collect it as a contractor that I know of,I sure as hell have to pay it every month though.

When my company pays me,or I pay myself because it is my company, a percentage go's to EI,I have to figure it out and pay it online.

Same with GST.

I think.

Thats what I don't get. My uncle worked as a drywaller for most of his life and as a piece worker (thats what he called himself but I gather its the same as a contractor) he never ever paid EI because he could not collect it. Of course he didn't pay income tax either as he could claim what he wanted so technically he never paid for any services.

I don't see how its possible for you to pay EI and not be eligible to collect it. I could technically be eligible but there are so many job openings in my field I could only really be unemployed through choice or incompetence.

Thats different. You aren't paying as an employee, your corporation is paying.

Wallmart pays EI premiums also but they can't collect.

Now I don't know corporate accounting but your EI premiums get deducted from your corporate tax owing so again even if you did not pay them you would pay the same amount of tax anyway.

My Sis had reconstructive knee surgery and has ran many bussinesses so what better time to take all my papers over to her place to get figured out?
heh,she cant go anywhere and was bored so all my papers are there right now or I would scan my payment to EI and show you.

I'm sure there's a few other people on here that can enlighten us on this.
I dont ever want anything to do with EI as far as getting anything myself, last time on it I had to pay a lot back and there was no warning,it came on the tax bill. XD

I'm paying it dude,it's factored into my rate right?
So I'm paying it.I'm the only employee, maybe I should hire an assistant so they can go on it.

Are you asking me to help with your taxes? :? Its not as if I don't believe you.

On a related note go to a tax professional because I think if you are paying EI yet are in a job classification that can't collect (like a seasonal worker) then you can probably get around it.

Theres more to it then seasonal work, that doesnt apply to me because of the nature of my work, because I wear many hats It all has to be on the application for incorporation along with comparitive figures for other companys doing the same work.It was not an easy process to set up,took me many weeks and thousands of dollars.
That's because I have to have a lawyer, accountant, etc just to figure out the paperwork.

I never dreamed it would be this hard to start my own company but am glad I did.
I've had some pretty tasty invoices from the job last year at the grande cache prison.

When I work in Nunavut I have to cancel my WCB here and apply for one from Yellowknife.
Takes 3 weeks.

Well neither of us are accountants although I do my own taxes also. I'm just saying that my uncle did construction work all his life and never paid EI and was never eligible to collect. Of course like you he now owns his own company so its a different matter.

All I'm saying is that it makes no sense that somebody is made to pay EI yet has no chance to collect it. Have you ever used a tax professional service before, either as a personal taxpayer or as a corporation?

What? WCB? Workmans Compensation Board? Are you claiming WCB benefits?

Do you just want to vent about all the new found problems you have discovered since incorporating?

Nope,I pay my WCB,it's law,it's pretty expensive especially if you dont work for a month, depends on what you want to pay,you choose your own coverage, now you can cancel for a month if you know your going to be at home, here in Alberta anyways.

All this go's to the reciever gen. so I keep up on it.
Their the last guys I want after me.

I claimed WCB once for a week in 1978 when I cut my knuckle off with a chainsaw, I was back to work in 7 days and they were good.Never been on it since and dont plan on getting hurt,if it happens,I have WCB,unlike your beloved past lib government it wont be used to pay down any debt so it will be there.

I set what I will get for payments in the case of an accident by what I choose to pay.

What do you mean you pay? As far as I know you only pay WCB when their is a claim against your company. If I hurt myself at work and can't work then I claim WCB and they charge the company a certain amount if not all.

OK, but what does this have to do with anything about EI or you possibly not having to pay it.

Yes but WCB claims are billed to the company so they pay at least a portion of it as far as I understand the system.
