Good to see he finally came back "home". Perhaps now he can actually spend some time in Canada.

Boy that never gets old for you 'eh? Are the soldiers in Afghanistan still Canadian enough, or have they been away for too long as well?

So Iggy was in the service of Canada when he was living in the US and UK?

Oh, so it matters why someone is out of Canada.. Well there was a whole bunch of people here calling for the government to ignore Bashir Makhtal's pleas for help. He was jailed in Kenya for two years, so it was rather difficult to return home for a while.

Being a professor in B.C. was okay, but he should have turned down an offer to teach at Harvard just in case he decided to get involved in politics later in life.

Get over it, and get on your leadership convention.

Lol. This shill makes even shills like Derby and myself embarrassed.

EyeBrock @ Tue Aug 04, 2009 10:59 am

Dodge.

Comparing Iggy's years out of country to our guys in the Military in Afghanistan, serving Canada, is disingenuous.
Iggy went overseas for his own personal gain.

Our guys are going overseas on a Canadian mission with NATO and 128 of them have died doing it.
Poor choice of parallels.

Personally I don’t care if he spent the time overseas. I think it makes him a more well- rounded politician.
Unfortunately for him, the “just visiting” label has stuck and it’s not seen as a plus by a lot of other people.

Oh, sore spot there.

I was just asking. It seems to be a fine line when the Conservatives decide you're less human because you have been away for a while. I'd like a clearer definition, just in case I decide to travel the world some day.

EyeBrock @ Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:09 am

Try Afghanistan.

Lemmy @ Tue Aug 04, 2009 11:53 am

If Iggy'd spent his time away from Canada in Afghanistan rather than Cambridge, would that have been okay with the Cons? This horseshit continues to be mindless TV-echoing from two-digit IQ, pin-headed parrots. Iggy must be a good candidate if this is the best shit the Cons can dig up on him.

Careful.. They got very upset when I asked that. I should have put it in the form of an attack ad maybe.

I agree Lemmy, it's a silly one, but it's sticking!

It's not that he was away but what he missed. How can someone claim to be in touch and be expect to lead a country that they haven't lived in for 34 years.

Again.. this was brought up by the other Liberal candidates at the last Liberal leader convention. This question was so strong that's why Dion was elected leader instead of Iggy.
.. now Iggy is appointed leader of the libs and presumes to lead us all?

If other Liberal members deserved to know that detail, shouldn't Canadian voters know it too?

EyeBrock @ Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:24 pm

I think it will cause him problems in an election campaign.

Again, personally this wouldn't be an issue for me when it comes to voting, but I bet if Stevey had spent a good chunk of time (as in years) in the US we would be seeing a lot of finger-pointing from the Libs and the media.

To compound it he's spent the past few weeks in the UK and France while the Tories and lesser Libs are doing the BBQ circuit.

Whether I or you Libs agree or disagree, this will become an issue during an election and this mud has stuck.
People know that Iggy spent 34 years in foriegn countries. These attack ads have worked and I'm sure we will see more of them.

Come on guys, we know politics is all show and no substance. Don't take it so personally!

Lemmy @ Tue Aug 04, 2009 12:28 pm

Jesus Fucking Christ!!! [bash] [bash] [bash] He was WORKING AT HARVARD! He wasn't bumming around Europe or teaching English in Korea or searching for crystal skulls in the Mayan jungle. He was a couple of hours away, working at the most (and believe me, as an MIT alumnus it kills me to say) prestigious university in North America. I don't think anyone is taking it personally, but those repeating this story, like there's any substance to it, are the ones that look stupid, not Iggy.

Come on Lemmy. If Harper had been working at a US uni, the media and Libs would have been all over it.

And I agree it's stupid and if he actually had some policies that I could weigh up, him being in Cambridge and at Harvard would not enter into my voting decision. Personally I think it would be a 'plus' from my point of view. I spent 8 years travelling and I'm a better person for it.

But, that aside, plenty people will see it as a negative and his time in the Great Satan will bite him in the arse come election time.

The voting public are not that clever y'know. Those two words, "Just visting" sum up an easily digestible message.

That was a great attack ad. Well produced. Was that stimulus money as well?
