Wow good on ya Laureen!

Laureen Harper slams cougar hunter as 'creep' who 'must be compensating'

Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s wife joined the chorus of online backlash against a Canadian TV personality who bragged about killing a cougar in northern Alberta.

Steve Ecklund, the host of the outdoor enthusiast show “The Edge,” posted several photos earlier this month showing him holding the dead animal, and another of him cooking a stir-fry with the meat.

Laureen Harper took to Twitter on Wednesday night to express her distaste for the hunter, calling him a “creep” and suggesting his behavior may have been the result of a masculine shortcoming.

Harper’s response provoked reactions online ranging from support to surprise at such blunt language from the wife of a former prime minister.

“Laureen? I honestly must admit, I never expected you to speak so boldly. Luv it!” wrote one user.

Another said, “Laureen! Who knew you were such a badass?”

Harper responded to a user who worried her account had been hacked, writing “Wasn’t hacked. I was really angry that some guy flies all the way to Alberta to kill a magnificent cougar, so he can make a stir fry.”

Agreed. Just another rich selfish pustule who couldn't give a damn about taking something beautiful away from the rest of the world. Hopefully the meat made him shit himself and his scum buddies half to death.

The killing of a cougar can only be justified if it attacked or killed someone. The way this <censored> killed it for no legitimate reason is pathetic because you don't eat cougar meat and <censored>'s like this don't represent all hunters.

Only for the novelty if it. There’s a reason that carnivores especially Apex carnivores have never been a dietary staple in any culture and it’s not because they’re difficult to catch. They’re often killed but rarely eaten except as a novelty or perhaps a ceremony and that’s because the nutrients are too far removed from their original source to be useful...at least as far as land animals go....eating fish-eating creatures doesn’t seem to be an issue.

I've heard that bear is pretty awesome from a friend of mine, but I guess that could be omnivore.

Yeah plus has any culture ever eaten bear as a primary or even commoyfood source? I think people only eat it for the bragging rights

I would assume at some point we ate anything we could really.

Bear is disgusting! Your friend's full of shit unless he was raised on it.
Natives eat it, but it's not exactly a 'staple' food. More like you want the pelt, its edible, you got 6 kids and the meat was free with the fur.
Every non-native I've ever met who said it was good rolled their own, had the holes in their gumboots duct-taped and hadn't had their monthly bath...

AFAIC bear, lynx (tried a nibble at game club) are like sea urchin, sea cucumber. Yeah you can eat them but a can of no name Spam tastes 1000% better.
