It's not a military bag. I assume that it is a tourists backpacking bag. The point of the ad is to equate the the Conservatives to America, or rather the Republicans. Because of the Conservatives "Republican" styled policies we are no longer able to wear the Canadian flag with pride while we travel to different countries just like some American tourists who decide not show off their own flag. At least that's what I get from it which is BS all around.

Well it might be a stretch but I'm wondering if the connotation was being subtly made by the ambiguity of the ad. Being a black and white picture doesn't help. Now while anybody reasonably knowledgable of our military would recognize that isn't an army issued ruck sack, I think too many people would infer that's who the ad is referring to. It's ambiguous enough to allow people to draw their own conclusions about the message. Maybe a travel ticket of some sort or a postcard from Europe in the pic would have helped clear it up. Either way, I get the impression it was deliberately misleading.

I know that the "Me" part of "We" is still proud to wear it, here or abroad. Only mine would be brand new. It appears that some south of the border have realized the benifits of such!

To keep this in prespective.. This is a flier from the party that always bitches when other parties send out fliers, from an old krone on Vancouver to a riding clear across the country.
Hedy Fry is the one on the right. I guess that's Kenmore on the left.

It might have been some sort of military bag back before WW2 but what looks like shoes with heels above and to the left of the camera (11:00 the flag) would probably lead one to believe it's not.

And we know the Libs sent us there in the first place already riden. It's not effective blaming the guy who fucked up on Day One when the replacement is still fucking up eight years later. That usually means the last guy in line is bone stupid.

I guess it's all Harper's fault that a Liberal MP from Vancouver sent a flier all the way across Canada to folks that arn't even in her riding, even though the Libs bitched about that too?

Yup McKay and a few others here seem to have completely missed the mark on this ad.
We used to have college kids and other people from this country back pack accross the EU and use the flag to show that we wern't from the US and perhaps not rob and/or beat the crap out of us (Mainly because our dollar value was much lower, and thus not worth the time compared to an American 
)
But many countries used to help back packers and travelers from Canada with places to stay, places to eat, hitch a ride, etc.
Now the argument is that because of our environmental records, the issues with quebec, our political instability, our ass kissing to the US (more then usual) and Americans now getting told to use our flag while traveling to avoid getting their asses kicked and robbed, while still acting like ignorant assholes like always, thus begins to give us a wee bit of a bad name.
If Peter McKay actually took three seconds to look at the ad properly and if he absorbed anything he was taught by our own military and equipment, he'd know this had nothing to do with our military, let alone has any relation to any standard military equipment.
Because he didn't, he looks like an ass.
And people complained when a big stink arose from Harper's little waffer incident? Seems to work both ways M'Dears.
