Liberal MP moves to honour Trudeau with statue on Parliament
KetchupJoe KetchupJoe:
Love or Hate him, Trudeau is a very significant Canadian PM.
Hitler and Stalin were significant leaders as well, but honouring them makes as much sense as honouring Trudeau.
He went out of his way to rape the country, and in a lot of ways he succeeded.
Yes, he was charasmatic...but so are most con men.
So, he's comparable to Hitler and Stalin?
Ridiculous
How is it rediculous? Uncle Joe and Adolph were on a different scale, obviously, but the point is...they all went out of their way to do the wrong thing. Much like Dubya is doing now.
It's not a hard thing to grasp...
Love him or loathe him ( and I loathe him), to many Canadians he is a hero.
Even though I was totally opposed to much of his politics , I have no doubt he did what he thought was right for Canada.
As a leader he was charismatic and very colourful, and he showed true leadership during the FLQ crises.
He deserves a statue.
That's this Tory's view.

boy, I'm gonna get razzed for this..
I agree with the statue.. PET was a great PM for Canada.
tough with the FLQ..
strong federalist when negotiating with provinces..
i know people in Alberta werent happy with the Energy program, but that was also in the interests of ALL Canada.
best results with Quebec referendum 60 / 40 .. no 51/49 BS
getting us a constitution... i loved that " well there's a second list " comment..

no problem telling the Americans to fuck off .. when they deserved it

a strong CANADIAN all around.
Only thing to criticize is this 'multicultural' idea, but you must remember the situation was VERY different back then.. even Holland wasnt in the trouble it is in now.
and Trudeau looks even better when you look at that sob Mulroney who came after him.
so, there it is .. let the flaming begin

Good post!
He wasn't good for any one part of Canada consistently, but alwasy tried to do what he thought was best for ALL of Canada, not one province or region.

You're way over the top. Name 1 PM who hasn't done at least 1 thing wrong.
I hope they do make a Trudeau Statue, I'd like to see the partisans have a collective heart attack about it.
Ummm...it's not about doing 1 thing wrong...we wouldn't be human if we didn't make mistakes....
I'll try and explain it again...
Trudeau tried to do the wrong thing...that's different than making mistakes. We shouldn't reward that...despite what many Liberals say...
Take care...blessings...
Ok I know nothing about Trudeau can someone give me a summary of why people love/hate him so much? Please if you can leave your partisanship at the door.

Time to get over it and quit thinking of him on the level of Stalin/Hitler. Unless you can produce a few million(hell, I'll give you a break and settle for a dozen) cadavers the result of some evil action, you're position is ridiculous.

Maybe in such a great document he could have added property rights, something we used to have but don't now.
