Christmas tended to be a major drunkfest in the 16th and 17th century.

me too. Four frickin' months without a beer, stuck in this craphole. Going home for CHristmas though. Booked my flight yesterday. I am going to drink beer by the bucketload, and I'm going to drink up ever last little bit of crass Christmas commercialism I cam imbibe.

I'm a civilian here, so technically I can mosey into town and drink. But Kabul isn't a place you want to be wandering about wiht your mind clouded with alcohol--situational awareness and all that. Plus, it's a bit of a solidarity thing. The soldiers can't drink, on base or off.
