C'mon you guys, you can't see it? A 35 yr old woman named Carol, "recently converted"?
Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that picture??? Sounds like a social activist to me, jumping on the most current issue to get her 15 minutes of fame.

hey man, it happens. how many foreigners with funny names convert to christianity? Some go the other way. Look at Cassius Clay now named Mohammed Ali. Look at John-Walker Lindh aka "The American Taliban". Look at Jazz performer Cat Stevens now named Yussuf Islam.

It happens, just accept it.

I can't help but think if this article was about Wayne Gretzky getting kicked out of the pool for wearing bermuda shorts, your responses would be less supportive of the French and more supportive of the complainant.

$1:
But sadly Muslims have everything to do with this topic.

So? why does one have to invoke Iran or terrorism on this topic just because the complainant was muslim? Its not like she had suicide bomb in her suit or the club was selling copies of the Satanic Verses. You brought it up just to be dick, I suspect.

ridenrain @ Thu Aug 13, 2009 1:53 pm

If her religion and it's trappings are so critical to her, why dosen't she move to a country that employs Sharia law? I told you why; because she's immediately become a second class citisen.

Because she chooses to convert to Islam. Islam is not compatible with Western way of thinking. Like ridenrain said, if she wants to say in the Western world, convert back or go to their friends in their shithole countries. We don't want them here.

You don't seem to realize that for them we must all die because we are westerners and free. That's their problem, not ours. Sorry but I don't want someone who wants me to die because I choose freedom to live near me.

I'm sorry but I'm going to have resort to name calling and tell you that you are obviously a young and impressionable person with little knowledge of the world or the people who live in it. Do you know how absolutely stupid you sound?

I mean think about that, it doesn't even make sense. of all the issues they have going on in their underdeveloped countries and day-to-day lives, they hate "freedom" for some unknown reason you can't explain - they just hate it- to the extent that they then decided to go to the otherside of the world and blow themsleves up because heard there is some "freedom" there. I don't want to turn this into a flame war, but you are retarded if you honestly beleive any of that.

Terrorists are extremists who are fighting for a combinantion of religious and politcial issues and beleive their cause is important enough to kill over, just like the Catholic IRA in Ireland or the ETA in Spain or even KKK down south. I don't know why you can't see that.

Your first problem is your obvious inability to separate the terrorists who are muslim from the vast majority of muslims who are NOT terrorists. I mean, seriously what the fuck do you know on the subject except what some other white christian told you? I bet you don't even know any muslims and have probably never travelled to that part of the world so what exactly do you base your knowledge on except childish xenophobic fear of people of whom you obviously have no understanding? I know quite a few muslims, some who were born here, some who immigrated. None of them think we must die, none of them think we must live like them, none of the "hate freedom." In fact, I don't even know one with a beard or funny clothes or head scarves or veils on their women. I have been to the middle east I know whats up a little better than you I would think. Just because I see white KKK members beat up black people down south doesn't mean all whites are racists does it? So why would you be so stupid as to judge another entire population based on the actions of only a few of its members?

No religion is compatible with the western way of thinkging. Westerners have been successful because we got rid of religious dogma altogether from our daily public lives.

The Muslim world was much more secular until the late 1970's and wearing headscarves and the like was actually uncommon in places like Iran and Iraq and much of the non-Saudi world until it made a comeback after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and a rash of particularly brutal dicators supported by the west brought about a revival of the muslim religous right and fundamentalism. So this isn't something that's inherrent to Islam, its something that's inherrent to traditionalism.

I'm atheist and would prefer it if everyone finally stopped wasting their time and turned their back on all of these superstitious religions including Christianity and got on with life, but there's nothing espeically "incompatible" about Islam and muslims do not want you to die, and even the terrorists who do want to kill you don't want to do it because you choose freedom. They have much more esoteric reasons.

Hmm...maybe there's a big middle ground between wearing a scarf and supporting sharia law but you're just not informed enough on the topic to know that...."Just maybe."

If you want to think that i'm stupid and with little knowledge, it's your right... I still believe Western world and Muslims are incompatible and that they are a threat to the integrity of a Western nation. We see that more and more in Canada and have seen it in France, UK and other Europe nations accepting Muslims.

Lol. Keep telling yourself that. Maybe you need to educate yourself more about the plight of woman under Muslim rule before you get all preachy again.

Looks like the Sihks arn't having much luck with France's religious headgear rules either.

but in some countries they both have visitation rights, and eat at the same supper table.

Not in France. Don't like it? Do as Boot said. Build your own, and do whatever the hell you please.

The trouble is we westerners aren't employing that philosophy. We are freaking out they they actually expect the very freedom we tout in our countries and we scream "go home if you want to do X'.

Then we attack and criticize all of them who just want to live their own way in their own country and we invade them to enforce our values.

Notice its all the hypocrites supporting war to enforce our values on them at the same time they despise muslims dressing the way they want in our free society?

At the gym I used in Japan, I HAD to wear speedos and a shower cap too. If you don't like the public pool's hygiene rules, build your own pool and do whatever the hell you want.

I think if muslims did build a pool with restrictions that women must be dressed a certain way (like we do at our pools) then people would still freak out. :?

our values are very well spelled out by the UN's Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Freedoms.
