screw that

QBC @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:13 pm

They already have Pigeon Park down on East Hastings, what more do they want?

BionicBunny @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:33 pm

Odd, I thought my taxes are going towards "rent"? If this is true, then I am surely entitled to rename a piece of land I am renting to whatever the hell I want.

KorbenDeck @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:40 pm

Screw the Indians they contribute almost nothing to Canada. Why should we change the name of the park for them?

Strutz @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:48 pm

It will always be Stanley Park to me.

Just like the Queen Charlote Islands will remain that.

Geez... am I soon going to be living in a re-named city that I have to learn how to pronounce and spell?

BionicBunny @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 10:54 pm

At least on the lighter side Strutz, the B.C. aboriginals are making a proposal for a name change. They haven't picked up that nasty Ontario habit of carrying guns, blocking roads, burning bridges and terrorizing people.

Scape @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:27 pm

Uh, why why?

Thanos @ Thu Jul 01, 2010 11:42 pm

Give in to this sort of bullshit once and you end up giving into it forever. Considering the kind of leftist white-guilt mentality that seems to colour almost all Vancouver politics it's probably already a fait accompli in favour of the natives and the new signs for the park will probably be installed before too long.

Bratislava, in Slovakia, used to have 3 names.

Preßburg -- German

Pozsony -- Hungarian

Bratislava -- Slovak

Trnava used to be called Nagyszombat :)

Tyrnau in German
Tyrnavia in Latin

all completely different languages, name changed according to who was in charge at the time.

So who is in charge in Vancouver ?

It's obvious you have never heard of the Gustafsen Lake standoff or the Duffy lake roadblock.

Gustafsen Lake Standoff

Ure creek blockade

Who cares, i mean if you asked the average Canadian who was Governor General in 1888 they would have a blank look on their face. they could name the the aboriginal word for beer fart and i don't think people would really give a rats ass

andyt @ Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:37 am

Let's just change Canada to UOS and be done with it.

A bunch of pussies who bow before the altar of political correctness and, at the same time, fart in the faces of the ordinary citizen. But I'm sure everyone knows that already.
