Another Amanda Todd ?
Boy, our young ones are just full of compassion for friends these days.

Very sad.
You'd think it would be easy to get an anti bullying bill passed for our public schools.
Lemmy @ Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:30 am
Passing a bill is easy but passing a law won't magically change behaviour. You, of all people, should know that, given your position on drug prohibition.
Just throwing our hands up in the air and saying kids will be kids isn't going to change anything either. Social media is making bullying easier. Until we pass legislation about cyber-bullying there's nothing the schools can do about it.
This is the most telling comment she wrote:

It's not so much what is said, it's what goes unspoken.
How very sad.
My heart goes out to Rehtaeh and her family.

Horrible.
there used to be a time when people who committed a crime wanted that to be kept a secret. Nowadays, the harder you push what you did online, the more popular you are, regardless who you hurt in your ego-trip.
Gotta love the anonymous online world.

Too true.

I think it would be easy. Actually implementing it though....that's the tough part. Legislating people to be nice works about as well as legislating morality.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Tears me up inside every time something like this happens.
My deepest condolences to her family.
This from the CTV site today:

Canning said some of his daughter’s organs, including her heart and liver, were donated to other patients, who were given “a new breath, and a new chance to love. She saved the lives of four people with her final gift of life. She was that wonderful.”
Bless you Rehtaeh for this and to your family for allowing these donations to take place. May you rest in peace. They can't hurt you anymore.
Also from the same article:

Canning also expressed his dismay that police did not lay charges in the case. RCMP said there was insufficient evidence to lay charges, despite the family’s claim that photographs were taken of the alleged attack and circulated around the teen’s Cole Harbour high school.
"How is it possible for someone to leave a digital trail like that yet the RCMP don’t have evidence of a crime? What were they looking for if photos and bragging weren’t enough?” Canning wrote.

Earlier Wednesday, the hacker group Anonymous says it has identified two of the four boys who allegedly raped Parsons and is threatening to reveal all of their identities if authorities do not press charges.
Charges won't change anything now but those bastards deserve to be identified publically as rapists. Knowing our pathetic system they won't end up serving time anyway since they were
"children" when it happened.

Strutz Strutz:
And who should identify them? Anonymous? They did such a wonderful accurate job in the Amanda Todd case. Should the authorities, who've already decided once that there wasn't enough evidence to pursue the case?
Don't get me wrong, this is a horrible story, and the idea of something like this happening to my little girl sickens me, but these are exactly the kind of cases where we need to tread most carefully. All we have so far is what her family has said. If it turns out that things happened like they said I hope those boys get put away for life. I hope whoever fouled up the initial investigation faces serious consequences. I hope the family gets the justice they deserve.
But what if there's a real reason that no charges were ever pressed? What if the boys are innocent? Is it up to anonymous hackers and Facebook mobs to serve justice on them?

OK. I didn't word that quite right to what I was thinking.
I wasn't directly suggesting anon or facebook should identify them. It's not up to them to serve justice nor to make that public. If they do there could be all kinds of legal shit that would hit the fan. They are pressuring for the case to be reviewed, as it should be, and if it is determined that the original investigation was not handled properly and that charges should be laid then at that time the identities of the rapists would be made public (unless they are still underage?)

Warren Kinsella's calling for Anonymous to get involved. I agree with him 100%. I hope they come in, name the rapists, embarass the living fuck out of the local RCMP and government ministers, and shred that goddamn town down to the bone. It sounds like Steubenville all over again.
Anonymous got the wrong guy at first in the Amanda Todd case, what makes you want to trust them here?
