That $14 billion surplus he inherited in 2006 should would come in handy right now...
Would Canada still have an unemployment rate of 6% if Harper hadn't have lowered business and personal tax?

yeah like income tax!

Maybe, maybe not, but a $14 billion dollar stimulus package would be really nice right now...

How about finding a real job instead of looking for handouts from the Gov't

And I am assuming that kenmore, Streaker and Derby are of the belief that the Libs could have done this without a deficit.
Cuz u know it is only one of the worst economic meltdowns since the Depression.
Yes they would have.

by the fact that he called it a stimulus package i think he meant that the government would fund projects so that people would have jobs. can't get a job when there are none.

I'm sure they would have dipped into the EI fund again to pay down any deficit. Not like the people who payed into it are entitled to it or anything eh?
hey don't let the facts get in the way of his opinion

The supreme court of Canada disagrees. They found it to be perfectly legal to use the EI fund like that.
But lets ask Harper. He is using it exaclty the same only to a larger degree. I guess his deficit is actually around 15 billion this year and will be at least an extra 10 billion higher to their already high projected deficit.
Wonderful. The Liberals are vilified for running a surplus and paying down the debt and our fiscally conservative conservatives are lauded for running a large deficit.

Thats called job welfare, or as real Canadians call it, liberal job bank. It has to be paid by the taxpayers.

I’m good for the next 4 years with projects on the books right now , See I'm not a number on a time card and I don't let anybody get between me and my $$$$.
That said, we have 3 big projects in China and same in India and one mid size one in Brazil and a huge one in south USA.
Canada's last big auto job was Toyota in Woodstock, I finished up there this fall.
Luck has nothing to do with it and I've never handed out a resume in my life.

No need to start a new thread but this needs to be said.
harper says about 20-30 billion!
Thats next year only folks. 30 Billion. Don't hand me that economy crap either. This is obviously the result of his poor fiscal management skills.
Yes everybody enjoys tax cuts but responsible fiscal mangement isn't just about slashing taxes in order to win votes. Its about balancing tax cuts with proper amounts of spending.
Harpers planned budget for 2008. Harper went from a 10.2 billion debt reduction in 07 and a planed debt reduction in 08 of some 2.3 to a 20-30 projected deficit.
WTG.
Govt spending in billions:
2006 222.2
2007 234.3
2008 239.6 (projected)
2009 250.7 (projected)
This is what I meant by an ill-advised combination of tax cuts and spending increases. BTW, the numbers from 08 & 09 will be much higher now.
This is exactly why the bulk of the economic world said the GST cuts were ill-advised. Currently the govt makes about 13% of its budget from the GST. Thats over 4 billion per % point. The 1% drop each year returned about nothing in terms of economic stimulus and impact.

You're not very smart are you? (don’t answer that was rhetorical)
800K jobs lost in the USA in the last couple months and its all ok in Canada.
IT"S THE ECONOMY STUPID
You can donate every dollar from your 35K a year job to the Gov't if you think it will help, I plan on keeping my money in my pocket.

True, the GST cuts were poor fiscal policy and the motivations for them were more political than economic.
But in your list of spending increases, you've neglected to point out that spending increased dramatically under the Martin Liberals during their time in office too.
In fact, had Martin remained in government, the surplus would have been whittled down substantially by his proposed Kelowna Accord and National Child Care Program.
You can be for or against those programs, but the fact is, they would have cost billions of dollars in new, permanent, annual spending.
