Well, I can tell you that even though haven't seen them, law enforcement is out there enforcing the rules to the best of their abilities. For example, you can follow the enforcement topics the RCMP plans by following their media feed:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/news?province[]=1149]

As you can see, May is Motorcycle safety month, and March was Seatbelt month.

They also are running a pilot project to reduce speed-related collisions that started in April.

I applaud their efforts, but I have yet to see them actually pulling anyone over. Or even on the highway. They used to sit on the on-ramps of overpasses and watch as traffic rolled by. Super effective! ;)

The only enforcement I see is photoradar on the Henday; in between lanes on bridges and on underpasses getting speeders from above. Seeing an actual City cop, RCMP or Sheriff is rare. :(

I did see a couple RCMP cruisers last weekend while I was doing the performance driving school. Some yahoo launched a drone at the Castrol dragway. Since Castrol is right beside the international airport, they monitor that shit. Two cruisers came tearing down the drag return strip, and stopped that right suddenly. 8O

Frankly, just because you don't see it doesn't mean it isn't happening:

I see Sheriffs/RCMP all the time on the QEII, and see EPS pull over someone every couple days during my commute - just yesterday I saw a regular radar trap on Fort Road.

And where will they get all that revenue (3600 tickets times what? $400 each?) when self driving cars come into vogue?

Judging by what I see driving around here and any 400 series hiway I don't think you have to worry about that for a long while yet.

The other day in a school zone on one of the first truly nice spring days some asshat was so close to my bumper it was crazy. I felt like a hood ornament. I was at the speed limit and watching for kids don't trust them to stay off the road. They are playing not thinking anyone who can't remember that shouldn't be driving.

You mistake my support for photo radar because it generates revenue - I could care less whether it generates any revenue at all.

I support the use of photo radar because studies show it increases safety by getting people to slow down and reduce crashes. The fact that it can enforce the speed limit much faster and more efficiently than human police officers is a just a small bonus.

Honestly, I can't wait for autonomous vehicles to get here, because it'll save untold numbers of lives - I can't speak for California, but stats show that 86% of collisions in Alberta are due to human error. Get rid of the human, get rid of the error. Even if a few cars malfunction once and a while, the numbers of deaths and injuries on our roads will still drop dramatically.
