Ignatieff doesn't need the west, but he does need Quebec. He should go ahead with the coalition, although I doubt he has the good sense to do so.

of course! after all the Liberals are Canada's real separation party. Divide the Country is their motto.

The Liberals will never get much support from the west anyways. Why should they waste energy even trying to gain support there if it costs them support in the east.

The Libs need to get back to their roots: The East.

and splitting up the country where they left off a few years ago :P

Go ahead it's time.

Go ahead and be a separatist if you want. It'll never happen.

$1:
Tell me how a Triple E senate benefits the Ontario or Quebec, who currently have more seats than Alberta. A Triple E senate would make all provinces 'equal', thereby stripping them of the power and leverage they have now.

so you have a problem with the west having equal power? what the hell is wrong with equal?

$1:
The point is that every province/region wants more power and leverage yet cares nothing for those who will lose for their gain.

gain power through an election not a blank check handed to you from a coalition.

is that lost on you?

Of course I want equal power. Unlike a lot of Westerners, I voted FOR the Charlottetown Accord, which would have gotten us started towards a far better senate than the one we have now.

The point, once again, is that every province/region/leader wants more power for themselves, but is never willing to compromise/sacrifice for it, be it Quebec wanting more equalization, Ontario wanting more seatsin Parliament or Alberta wanting a Triple E Senate.

Maybe they should stop voting for separatists and vote for Liberals then?

Electoral reform, please.

Does the pollster calling Kenmore 60% of the time really represent what Quebec wants?

Streaker, you're right the west would never seperate, but the treat of it sure gave quebec a lot of leverage

Quebecker's want to exert more power on the rest of Canada than their amount of seats say they can, oh and they don't care about anybody or anything outside of Quebec.

Nothing new to see here, move along please lefties.

the senate from the old house of lords was designed to be the great equalizer. So say, a bill that Ont or Alberta gets passed that says time to strip PEI of all homes and tern it into a park can't get forced onto a 'small' province.

Granted, not that it would happen but I use that bizarre example only as a way of trying to express the need to make the upper chamber more in line with the 21st century.

Because we are Canadians here as well.

It is no surprise at all that Quebec supports a progressive left of centre government that pushes their regional interests. The Coalition has the potential of meeting that goal for Quebeckers.

Ignatieff however does not create the impression of being an agent for change or improvement or of whatever the term "liberal" means. A choice between two centre parties is not really much of a choice for the electorate.

Perhaps Quebeckers have been voting for the Block because of their left of centre policies rather than the Separatism issues. For Quebeckers, the Coalition would be the economic policies of the Block, but with the national clout to implement them.
