FUCKING PEACE ACTIVISTS!

This is wrong!

Another peeve on poppies. I looked all over Granville Island last Saturday for poppies.... not a single person was selling them. It's a central market/shopping area. I was floored.

does advocating learning from mistakes automatically demean the sacrifice made?

i don't think so.

If you want Poppies:

Go to any branch of Staples, the big supermarkets Safeway and Save on foods out West Loblaws back east. Canadian Tire, London Drugs and Shoppers drug marts. Any Legion or any BC government Liquor store.
Even Some Tim Hortons.

Yup, I was looking for a vet, it's not that I couldn't find one. Our place is right across from Granville Island so it's our grocery store. I was just surprised that there weren't vets there selling on the Saturday before.

In 1981 the United Nations General Assembly passed resolution 36/67 declaring an International Day of Peace.
In 2001, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a new resolution 55/282 declaring 21 September of each year as the international
Day of Peace.

If they want to sell white poppies for Sept 21 I can see no

problem with that. Nov. 11 is Remberance day for which the red poppy

is symbolic. This is just another case of people trying to push their own

agenda and say the hell with tradition.

I am shocked at the fact that this is not endoursed. After all,is it not peace they died for.

The red reflects there sacrifice. It has worked for decades, why change it?

While I don't like the idea that they ripped off the poppy design, but I don't see it as a replacement. Anyone who would wear a white poppy instead of a red poppy is a fool and does not understand the whole thing anyways.
There's no indication that they charge for these and if they do, I'd be tempted to sue the ass of these troublemakers.

BluesBud @ Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:21 am

The red poppy already is a symbol of peace. It represents all those that fought for and sacrificed to insure a peaceful world from injustice and tyranny. A new symbol is not needed we already have a fine one with a long tradition.

Well, I know that when I lived in Japan and wore mine, the Brits all asked what I was wearing, as they had always had white poppies.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with wishing for world peace AND remembering the sacrifice of our veterans. Odds are, world peace will never happen, but if people don't at least try, then all we are doomed to is more of our citizens dying in foreign lands.

I for one think it's a good idea. It might sound naive, but a world without conflict is something everyone should wish for. However, human nature/greed gets in the way and prevents it from occurring.

The most poignant thing a soldier ever told me was this, "It is soldiers who wish the most for peace, for they are the ones who suffer the greatest when a war starts."

While I am for protests and peace activists, this is going way too fucking far...

So what do you suggest?

I say find a symbol other than the poppy. There are many that represent peace. The dove, the olive branch, a white feather among others. Leave the poppy (whatever the colour) to those that paid the ultimate for (and are currently working for) peace & freedom.
