There's a LOT of tongue-in-cheek in his posts, I think. On an internet forum that can lead to misunderstandings, but in such cases the mods should give the member in question the benefit of the doubt, or at least give the member a chance to clarify/explain his point, something which as far as I can see didn't occur here.
And the fact that there are soldiers on this site is immaterial. This isn't some dedicated military site where the civvies have to play by their rules.
Well he posted a crybaby rant in another thread so could have made his position clear, or apologize. He didn't. Anyone who makes jokes to the affect that Canadian soldiers should die should have his ass handed to him. At the very least a short time out is appropriate. I have family that may serve in Afghanistan in the future. I don't find it funny at all that someone would joke about them dying over there.

Exactly. And if I'm not mistaken fig was once in the military as well, and has on previous occasions expressed regret at the death of Canadians in uniform.

Sure, let's pay the Yanks to let us fight their war for oil while they bomb us and shoot us while we sleep. Maybe with any luck the freakin' bombs'll just blow up on the gad dagged launcher, killing a bunch of Canucks and saving wear and taer on the flippin' Wart Hogs.
I don't think it was that bad. Maybe not the most factual but I don't think he deserves to be in gaol for it. I think I have read far worse things on this forum than what figs said. I believe in freedom of speech and I don't think people should be silenced no matter how much I disagree with them.

I'll agree that his post was in bad taste. But it's better to have this hashed out in the forum than just shut things down by jailing him. There are any number of members here who would have been able to give him a dressing down if they'd had a chance to.

Fair enough, I didn't think it was very funny either. But I can't see a forum being run fairly if the mods resort to subjective criteria when deciding to jail/ban someone.

Then why have the jail at all? Why ban anyone, It's all subjective. What I find distastefull obviously you and other's don't. Avro has been jailed for things his pals didn't think was that bad. Hell I've been jailed for doing nothing more than continuing to post in a thread after I was told not to. Too bad so sad. Life sucks some times.

All I can say is personally, I get offended all the time on this site, but I've only once asked a mod to ban or jail someone, and that was regarding a blatant neo-Nazi who had come around a long time ago.

Think his slip into the dark side started way back when he was advocateing urinating on the war memorial last year. Been downhill ever since.
