Submarine bound for Titanic goes missing

Too soon?

I think their gaming controller ran out of battery, and they couldn't manuever. We've all been there, red battery light in the middle of a game?
The race to find the Titanic submersible, plus other letters to the editor for June 22: ‘We seem to have developed a caste system for those who will be saved and those who are expendable.

Breaking news on CTV news on TV right now... apparently unspecified "debris" has been spotted in the search area.
xerxes @ Thu Jun 22, 2023 9:45 am
Surprised that debris has been spotted already (if it is from this sub), but not surprised that there would be debris. The more news that comes out about this company, its CEO, and the sub itself, I’m increasingly surprised that this didn’t happen earlier. That sub looks like the jankiest POS ever to enter the water.
No seats. No room to stand up. No place to go to relieve yourself. No comms equipment. The only viewport wasn't rated to go to that depth. Controlled by an off brand PS4 controller known to be unreliable. And operated by a CEO with nothing but contempt for safety regulation.

Best case scenario is it went crunch. Other than the researcher in it, the rest are billionaires and frankly I don't give a shit about them. But I also hope they didn't suffer needlessly.

Agreed - I think this pretty much encapsulates my feelings on this incident:

Not to mention it's kind of fucked up to sell 250k tickets to go look at a tomb. Let the people rest in peace. Send subs for historical/marine research. Not tourism.

US Coast Guard is now confirming that’s what happened. A catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber. Which, as grim as it is, would be the best scenario IMO. Have it happen fast and not wait four days to run out of air.

Or die of hypothermia from losing power (and therefore heat), or drowning, or in a fire. Honestly the expected result from the beginning. As horribly as that thing was designed and made, it had multiple ways to get to the surface that didn't require power. With the amount of manpower out there, it would have been found before now. Once it was gone for the first 24 hours, I feel like this was the only outcome.

I'm just glad that no incidences happened to any of those many people who were out there searching.
They are going on on the news about wondering when it imploded and I believe it was likely around that time on Sunday when all communication was lost.

Lesson The First for Titanic graveyard tourists: don't get on board a submarine, or any other vehicle or craft, that was built by the same people who sold those crappy monorails to Springfield, Ogdenville, Brockway, and North Haverbrook.
Monorail??

Like Xerxes' back of the napkin calculation, they descended at about the rate that the pressure seal was rated, to in that amount of time. 1300 feet and it popped like a zit.
At least it was quick. I just think that it sends a bad precedent. If we keep bailing billionaires out every time they have some foolish stunt, they are always going to come looking for handouts.

Mr. Snrub was right, the should have put the money back into the local energy concern instead of spending it on that crappy submarine.
