It's like those Yank plonkers who went hiking (really?) near the Iranian border. Idiots.

   

I can't believe that one. I'm kinda with the Iranians that they were spies. How do you get into Iraq to go hiking anyway? Show up in your lederhosen and alpenstock at Baghdad International and go "Ver's de hiking?"

   

I thought they said they were making a documentary.

Probably a tree hugger not unlike many on here who figures the Taliban are reasonable people and can be dealt with peacfully. Now, if this is actually true, good men will risk their lives at one point to try and rescue his ass.

   

You have to wonder if Mother Nature whispered to one of her failed experiments, while they were sleeping,'Go to Afghanistan.......for a holiday.'

andy, I've travelled. These kind of idiots from Western countries are everywhere.

In every strange and well dangerous country I visited, these rich, naive kids from Kansas, Vancouver, London, Sydney, Christchurch et al were in the bars, night spots, pizza places etc. Thinking they were still at home and oblivious of the threats arround them.

But hey, it's bit like being at the cottage for them. Bad toilets but kind of fun. They don't see the danger, bless 'em.

Usually well-meaning but terminally lacking in any modicum of common sense and street-smarts.

   

It's one thing to go to say Colombia, where you know it's dicey, but it's still sorta a normal country. The govt itself isn't going to go after you, tho of course individual cops or military might. They can usually be bribed to let you go tho, since that is the purpose of taking you in the first place. But to go to Iraq or Iran just seems like a whole other order of stupid.
