Going to be a lot of seniors who are living in private care facilities, having to sit in soiled diapers for most of their day.

Lots of Canadians train for a HCA career, not having a clue what the job entails. But that first time they have to clean up the old fella who shit himself 6 hours before and now it's worked it's way past his knees and halfway up his back......all I can say is.

Seniors would be f**ked if it weren't for the TFW'S.

Au contraire! My Girlfriend runs an extended care facility, and the TFWs are the ones least likely to help grandpa into the commode in order to do his business in the first place, let alone wipe it up when he can't hold it any longer.

They are the ones who will administer stool hardeners and laxatives so that bowel movements are timed in the proper rhythm. ie: not on their shift.

In short, they are there to get paid, not to actually give a damn about the residents.

Well, you've got your GF's stories, I've got 6 years experience with my mother living in one. What! are they buying their own Meds and smuggling them in? ROTFL

Born On The Fourth Of July was on one of the movie channels the other night, with all the harrowing scenes of the crippled soldiers in one of those horrific VA hospitals. You don't need indifferent immigrants to treat people in hospitals like crap. Home-born people are capable of doing it too. My mom was in the geriatric ward for two months from January to March. Most of the nurse's aides and cleaners were FTW's and they all treated the seniors pretty good. No abuse or other bullshit occurred that we were aware of.

Your mother is one of the lucky ones. With your 6 years experience you know that all an LPN has to do is ask the duty nurse for these meds, as they don't require a doctor's advice. You've just got your one experience, my GF has hundreds of stories like this. Her experience extends well over 20 years, in some of the worst stories I've ever heard, including death.

People shouldn't be treated like that, and privately run extended care facilities are the main reason why I rail against private healthcare in general.

If your gf has 100's of stories, I'd like the name of her facility so I can report it, (man someone needs too) I'm sure she has proof for you to come to a public forum to say that's what's happening and it's only TFW's that are doing it.

I'm sure the place you mentioned is operating using the MAP program, and under that program the resident can only have what a Dr. prescribes, which is then packaged in a blister pack to be handed out at the appropriate time. There's no extra random drugs laying around, the care facility isn't a pharmacy so that's complete bullshit, a duty nurse in a hospital can't even hand out an aspirin with out running it pass a Dr. first.

My mom had major dental surgery, I couldn't give her a extra strength Tylenol when she was having pain, we had to get a prescription, it was blister packed for the correct dosage and to be administered every 4 hours, as required. Any unused Meds were destroyed. When they found the bottle that I had brought into her room, I was hauled off to the office and threaded with her removal from the program.

But really,

I'm pretty sure that's a criminal offense and I'd really like the name of the facility, obviously your gf isn't doing her job if she has 100's of stories like this.

And for the record, the story about the old man shitting his pants...... that was in a AHS hosptial and there ain't any TFW's there making the big money.

Longer than that now. Sounds like a lot of the next flights out are one way tickets.

No kidding. I have the feeling there's gonna be a whole lot of that going on before much longer. Houses, trucks and toys. Gonna be one province wide garage sale. Including garages.

I'm talking about my house in Ontario, not here. Ontario is a fucking train-wreck and getting worse with that Liberal lesbian in charge.

Ah yes. That garage sale's been going on for some time now.

Worst part - VERY few people will learn a friggin' thing from it. It would drive me crazy if it weren't for the fact that I DID learn a very long time ago and could land a deal out of it.

I didn't say it was only TWF's doing it, I said if Seniors need their soiled 'diaper' changed, it's just as likely that a TFW will ignore (or be forced to ignore) their situation as a permanent worker will.

I don't know what the 'MAP' program is, but I do know that an LPN is in charge of administering drugs, and is able to give over the counter drugs with a RN's advice. And they have a fairly well stocked drug room.

Alta_redneck Alta_redneck:

Hospitals are not the same as private facilities. Extended care facilities have a wide discretion, and things like pain killers are easily available with supervision.

Her complaints to AHS fall on deaf ears, until someone dies. She complained for years, until a guy froze to death in a parking lot near the facility because his wheelchair got stuck and it was -40 outside. And no one checked up on him. Then there was a big deal, and still nothing changed.

Then she changed facilities, and still her complaints fall on deaf ears, till someone dies.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/ ... -1.2878314

And she spends hours a day talking to family, and dealing with Police about incidents, filling out reports to Seniors in Care departments, and still nothing changes. She complains so loud and so often that her employers have threatened to fire her* over all the time taken up with government reporting and police reports. (* not directly, because they aren't stupid, they know a cash cow when they see one)

Don't judge my GF based on your lack of knowledge and incorrect assumptions. One thing I extoll here is a person's duty to right wrongs they see in society, and do you honestly believe all the years I've been here and been saying that, that I could call someone who just sat by and watched injustices happen, my "girlfriend"?

Benn @ Thu Apr 02, 2015 8:47 am

ITs sad when government bodies overlook things because they don't have a real solution so stick their heads in the sand.

Point of the article and program is getting lost here. It was temporary, these people should have known that and if anyone told them different its on them not Canadians as whole. They can't change the rules of the game when they get here. They knew it would not be forever now they have to go home. Too bad. And if dummy who represents them wants to counsel them to break the law and stay then there is a law to charge him on as well.
