But what a mess the govt made of this. First allowing in 200,000 a year with no restrictions on how long they could stay. Requests for TFW's were routinely approved, with no need for the employer to prove he looked for Canadians first. So Canadian employers went nuts bringing in cheap slave labor, keep wages down. This is on the government, not the TFW's. If we really need all these people, bring them in via the immigration program. Already the govt is giving exemptions again from the new rules, because employers are screaming like stuck pigs.

Well with any luck andy, you can move up to full-time status now that the temps are leaving.

Your mother is one of the lucky ones. With your 6 years experience you know that all an LPN has to do is ask the duty nurse for these meds, as they don't require a doctor's advice. You've just got your one experience, my GF has hundreds of stories like this. Her experience extends well over 20 years, in some of the worst stories I've ever heard, including death.

People shouldn't be treated like that, and privately run extended care facilities are the main reason why I rail against private healthcare in general.

If your gf has 100's of stories, I'd like the name of her facility so I can report it, (man someone needs too) I'm sure she has proof for you to come to a public forum to say that's what's happening and it's only TFW's that are doing it.

I didn't say it was only TWF's doing it, I said if Seniors need their soiled 'diaper' changed, it's just as likely that a TFW will ignore (or be forced to ignore) their situation as a permanent worker will.

Alta_redneck Alta_redneck:
I'm sure the place you mentioned is operating using the MAP program, and under that program the resident can only have what a Dr. prescribes, which is then packaged in a blister pack to be handed out at the appropriate time. There's no extra random drugs laying around, the care facility isn't a pharmacy so that's complete bullshit, a duty nurse in a hospital can't even hand out an aspirin with out running it pass a Dr. first.

I don't know what the 'MAP' program is, but I do know that an LPN is in charge of administering drugs, and is able to give over the counter drugs with a RN's advice. And they have a fairly well stocked drug room.

Alta_redneck Alta_redneck:
My mom had major dental surgery, I couldn't give her a extra strength Tylenol when she was having pain, we had to get a prescription, it was blister packed for the correct dosage and to be administered every 4 hours, as required. Any unused Meds were destroyed. When they found the bottle that I had brought into her room, I was hauled off to the office and threaded with her removal from the program.

But really,

Hospitals are not the same as private facilities. Extended care facilities have a wide discretion, and things like pain killers are easily available with supervision.

They are the ones who will administer stool hardeners and laxatives so that bowel movements are timed in the proper rhythm. ie: not on their shift.

I'm pretty sure that's a criminal offense and I'd really like the name of the facility, obviously your gf isn't doing her job if she has 100's of stories like this.

And for the record, the story about the old man shitting his pants...... that was in a AHS hosptial and there ain't any TFW's there making the big money.

Her complaints to AHS fall on deaf ears, until someone dies. She complained for years, until a guy froze to death in a parking lot near the facility because his wheelchair got stuck and it was -40 outside. And no one checked up on him. Then there was a big deal, and still nothing changed.

Then she changed facilities, and still her complaints fall on deaf ears, till someone dies.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/ ... -1.2878314

And she spends hours a day talking to family, and dealing with Police about incidents, filling out reports to Seniors in Care departments, and still nothing changes. She complains so loud and so often that her employers have threatened to fire her* over all the time taken up with government reporting and police reports. (* not directly, because they aren't stupid, they know a cash cow when they see one)

Don't judge my GF based on your lack of knowledge and incorrect assumptions. One thing I extoll here is a person's duty to right wrongs they see in society, and do you honestly believe all the years I've been here and been saying that, that I could call someone who just sat by and watched injustices happen, my "girlfriend"?

My lack of knowledge, fuck you Andy  the only thing I'm assuming is that all government funded, private assisted living facilities follow MAP for drug administration as directed by AHS. I'll find that out this afternoon when I go up to one today.

It sounds like your gf is just in it for the money, all her job entails is covering everyone's ass. She is running the place, and she has the power to fire people, if she isn't doing it and knows all this is going on, then she's directly part of the problem.

Oh, and the old guy that froze to death, unfortunate, but you know what, their not prisoners I'm betting the farm he went out for a smoke before bedtime. One of the old guys I visit goes out like that 9 or 10 times a day. no matter how cold it is. Blame the anti smoking police on that one.

Yes you have no knowledge about my girlfriend, therefore you have no right to judge her. So fuck you. /Out.

The TFWs at the local Subway are pretty good workers. Mopping the floor when its slow instead of fucking around on their phones like the local kids. And because this place is so small, they're popular. People like them cuz they're different.
100% of us would sign a petition to let them stay as permanent residents.
One town away and its another story. No interest in social interactions, every stereotype of a foreigner. Anything off the script, its solly no speakey engrish...

wildrosegirl @ Thu Apr 02, 2015 8:30 pm

So... they're just like every other ethnic group, Canadian included. Some good ones, some shitty ones, and everything in between.

It's called "human".

Well there goes eating at KFC anymore. Years ago our local KFC had highschool students working there and was closed for being a fucking health hazard because these kids had no supervision, no ambition, no ability and no willingness to work for their wages.

Then, the place was sold and the new owners brought in TFW's. It suddenly became a clean efficient and decent place to buy fried chicken but, now that they are all being sent back it'll likely revert right back to the Pirate Burger style franchise that was epitomized in Fast Time at Ridgemont High with dipshit 18 year old managers, drug addled teens and all the trappings that go with it.

Most fast food places will suffer that fate. As for the ambitionless 18 year olds - unfortunately, many 25-40 year olds I've worked with are of the same mentality. :? The problem isn't where we get the workers from, or how old they are, but how they're raised from birth. We've screwed ourselves, for the most part, in that department.

In short, they are there to get paid, not to actually give a damn about the residents.

True that. Most of them don't give two damns about being here or helping anyone but themselves. I've seen lots of those foreign nannies letting kids cry or ignoring the seniors they are helping just to chat with more like them. There is the odd one of them that is caring and dependable, but most are just here to send their money back to their own country.

Get them all on the boat and be done with them. It might seem cruel, but if they don't give a damn about us, we should reciprocate in same.

As fr the CBC.....bleeding heart exaggerators forever.
