The Unfunny Right

Well, it might not be very nice to laugh at the mentally ill/challenged, but in the case of the rightist ideologues in the US that destroyed the Republican party it becomes kind of hard not to break out in the giggles when examining what they say and do. Folks would have a hard time making up yuks at the expense of Bill Buckley or Barry Goldwater. With fuckwits like Rush Limbaugh or Sarah Palin the jokes practically write themselves.

It's much simpler than anyone has stated: a sense of humour is a trait of intelligence. It's a statistical certainty that right will exhibit less humour.
Well at least you have a good sense of humour.

Really? I always found the class clown to be one of the more idiotic ones.

The guy that was the class clown in my grade is now a Tory MP. And I never found ANY class clown that funny. Maybe those on my right did, but I thought they were just a moronic interuption to my studies.
Well don't worry, all that studying didn't make you a stick in the mud at all.

Good for him, I see he's done something with his life. Guess the whole theory about right wingers not being funny was blown out of the water

I find the more strident a comic becomes in his political views, the less funny he becomes. Same with writing. Probably any art for that matter. Once the message gets to loud, it's just dogma.
What comics do a lot of the time is attack things which are considered sacrosanct and make fun of tradition. These are things that conservatives, by definition, value, so maybe that's why comics are often construed as leftist when they may not be.
Take George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can't Say on TV." It's not really a political statement, but it upset a lot of conservatives (liberals too, to be sure, but mostly conservatives) because it upset conservative values.

Same with academics. Bart linked to a paper once that showed journalists were left-leaning as well (which, it shoiuld be noted, is a lot different than saying that the media are left leaning). Who knows why that is, but it's why the worst governments always target the artists and academics first.
Academics (smart-people) are left-leaning? I DO wonder why that is.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but Academics does not necessarily mean you're smart......................just that you have a higher degree of education as dictated by an outmoded and mostly useless system.
You know the one I mean, the one that wants you to get a degree so you can end up working in Mcdonalds, while the guy (not an Academic) who went to a tech school is now in high demand and getting 50 to 60 bucks an hour to fix the problems in your home that your not smart enough to do yourself.
Who's the smart one?

Hmmm...I think the smart folks, in this case, would be those that know the difference between "acamedics" meaning schooling in general and "academics" or "academia", meaning professional researchers, professors and the like.
