Here's a novel idea... why not wait until the movie comes out and then see if it's good or not? [huh]

The movie may be fantastic and the best action movie ever made but, it still won't be a real James Bond 007 Movie.

Even if James Bond (Craig) is in it?

The stories have to start accounting for why there have been so many Bonds, so many Q's, so many M's.

They kind of did for M during the D. Craig movies. He says something along the lines of "I always thought M was just a randomly assigned letter but your name is MMMM...." right when he starts the M sound she tells him if her utters one more syllable she will have him killed. At the end of the last movie after she has died the New M's name is already known Robert Mallorie thus when D. Craig as Bond call's him M there is no issue with it.

Now for Q stands for, or at least I have always taken it to stand for Quartermaster. A quartermaster is someone who issues you equipment. That's what Q has always done in the movies.

In all the Novel's by Ian Fleming, novels by other authors, Eon film franchise characters, comic books and video games characters, there has only been one 007 a fact which would indicate that all 00 agents are given their own specific number and that it's not some lottery where they hand numbers down like someones older brothers clothes.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Bond

So, if this woman is going to become an MI6 agent with a license to kill she'd have been given her own 00 designator and not the one James Bond earned. A fact which leads me to believe that they're going to make her the new "James Bond" an not another character with his 00 number like some people are claiming.

You'd be wrong on that. There were two 004s, two 003s, two 006s ETC. It's just a code name that gets recycled when someone in the universe retires or dies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/00_Agent

Apparently you're right. The authors of the non Fleming versions decided to reuse the old number with a character who had a different name. So from it would appear they deviated from Fleming vision of he 00 designation system and decided that reusing the numbers was okay and nobody would notice. Guess what they were right, nobody cared but, I'm pretty sure giving away James Bonds designation may be a different story.

Connery may have been a virtual unknown, but then again, so was James Bond. He starred in the first movie, not landing a major role in a series with a four decade long history.

Frankly, I don't give a shit that they picked a female POC, my comment was based on the fact that Lynch's film history is next to nothing. She's been in a handful of movies and TV shows, and I don't think any were as the protagonist (just supporting characters).

Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan all had fairly extensive careers before they landed roles in the Bond franchise. Even Daniel Craig had been acting for over a decade and been big roles in a few blockbusters (Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition, Muich, etc.)

Honestly, if they wanted to go this way, get Thandie Newton.

She's a beautiful woman and a POC with a much bigger list of blockbuster films (Crash, MI 2, 2012, Chronicles of Riddick, Solo, etc.) in her past.

That's an entirely valid criticism. I think someone like Emily Blunt would have done a great job. The other two I can think of may be too old physically to pull it off in Kate Beckinsale and Rhona Mitra. Thandie Newton might also be to old. Though really if they had stunt doubles they'd all be good too.

However, unknown also doesn't mean bad. Lets wait and see if it's bad.

I'm not a big fan of Blunt, but Beckinsale or Mitra would definitely be able to pull this off. Even Newton is only 49, so with a stunt double, it would be doable.

And agreed, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, I'm just surprised that a big Hollywood producer decided to cast a virtual unknown for one of the biggest franchises out there. Typically, they pick big names for these roles (even the villains) to get asses in seats.

Time will tell if this is a good thing or hurts the franchise.

And there's that other one by the same guy where the young girl gets saved by the dumb hit man and she wants to be one. She's walking around with his plant at the end.

Screw you - The Professional is one of the best action movies of the '90s.

Kind of side note but dealing with Movies in general. Back in the 90's there was a movie review guy at the news paper. Every movie he craped on I loved. Every movie he loved I thought sucked. I would base my movie watching off his reviews.

Then we get to just recently. I watched a lot of YouTube stuff and reviews on the Hand Solo movie. From that I was going OMG this is so much of a crap movie. I finally broke down and rented it via RedBox. Eh not a bad movie, I enjoyed it enough to watch a second time when it came out onto Netflix. Not one I want to watch over and over.

Moral of all this. Decide for yourself if a movie is good or bad or if you want to watch it or not. Everyone has different takes on the movies and the so called experts … well they don't have the same tastes as I do so I don't care what they think either.

Here's the latest on the James Bond movie and apparently it isn't even a done deal but, this woman definitely isn't the "Next James Bond". She may not even take over the designation of 007 and will be a separate character who is another MI6 agent with a license to kill.

$1:
While Daniel Craig is returning to play James Bond himself, according to this leak, Bond begins the film in retirement and is called back to active duty when a crisis hits. In the M16 office, he meets the new 007 — not the new Bond, but the new holder of that alias — a black woman named Nomi, played by Lynch. Craig has been saying for years that he wants to retire from the Bond role. It’s possible that after the yet-unnamed 25th Bond film, Lynch will take over the franchise for him — or at least star in a spinoff.

There has been much debate over the years as to whether Craig’s successor could be female, or a person of color. Rumors once swirled around Idris Elba as a possible replacement. Executive producer Barbara Broccoli said in an interview last fall that Bond was created male and she intended to keep the character male, while adding more female characters to the story around him.

https://time.com/5626544/lashana-lynch- ... ond-movie/

So if Ms. Broccoli(daughter of original Bond producer Albert R. Broccoli) is to be believed this arguing about the character being James Bond or even 007 or not is nothing more than a tempest in a teapot because James Bond is male and will remain male. ROTFL

I thought Blunt was great in Edge of Tomorrow so I have no doubt she could pull it off.

And that's not necessarily true. Chris Pratt hadn't been in staring roles in (big) movies, Batista was only known from WWE, and they were cast in Guardians. I'd never heard of Tom Holland before spiderman.

In spy lingo (John LaCarre, etc.) "C" stands for "Control". or your boss/handler. "M" was for "Master" Control, or the big boss. And yes, "Q" is Quartermaster.

JFC How many times does that have to be said in this thread? At most she's a new character with the 007 title. She is not a "new Bond".

Can none of you fucking people read?
