I'm thinking about funding a new version of the life of Alexander Mackenzie but casting Margaret Cho in the lead role as a troubled Korean lesbian who has to pose as a Scottish man in order to lead her country and score chicks.

And you've never heard the term "movie hero," I imagine.
Will Kane from High noon is a personal hero of mine.
That bothers you, does it?
Doesn’t bother me, I just find it funny.
Well, I find it funny that you find it funny, so there you go.
Culture can contain the guideposts of what a society finds righteous.

Well this has been fun but, like it or not 007 and James Bond are synonymous. Go ask anybody who hasn't been living under a rock for the past 40 years who 007 is and i'm pretty sure you won't get some black woman's screen name as a response.
So, claiming she's a different character would be fine if they hadn't tied her to Bond, but as soon as she puts on the mantle of 007 like it or not, she now becomes James Bonds replacement and all the semantics in the world aren't going to change that fact.

I think you missed Daniel Craig's first Bond movie, where he didn't start as a 'Double O', but had to earn it by killing a double agent.
That leads to the idea that anyone in MI6 can earn a Double O designation, even a black woman. She doesn't have to be called "James Bond" to be a Double O, there have been several others throughout the years.

No I didn't miss it as unBond like as it was and yes in a backstory James Bond (Daniel Craig) has to kill to get his number, likely the same as 001 or 008 did so, what's your point?
In all the Novel's by Ian Fleming, novels by other authors, Eon film franchise characters, comic books and video games characters, there has only been one 007 a fact which would indicate that all 00 agents are given their own specific number and that it's not some lottery where they hand numbers down like someones older brothers clothes.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_BondSo, if this woman is going to become an MI6 agent with a license to kill she'd have been given her own 00 designator and not the one James Bond earned. A fact which leads me to believe that they're going to make her the new "James Bond" an not another character with his 00 number like some people are claiming.

Because the article says:
$1:
However, traditionalists can relax: she's not the new Bond, but a new character who takes over his secret agent number after he leaves MI6.
I know it's the "Daily Fail" but I have to suspend my disbelief or we'd have nothing to discuss.

Fleming started writing in 1952. Movies started in the 60's. The stories have to start accounting for why there have been so many Bonds, so many Q's, so many M's.
The logical way to do that is have the job of a Double O, M, or Q, be held by more than one person. So "James Bond" has been many actors over the years, and has been "007" all that time, but that designation doesn't have to belong to "James Bond", just like "Captain of the Enterprise" isn't only "James T. Kirk".
Who knows how the writers are going to write this? But evolution isn't a bad thing.

Even several women.

You'd be wrong on that. There were two 004s, two 003s, two 006s ETC. It's just a code name that gets recycled when someone in the universe retires or dies.

Nah. It's far easier to pre-judge.

Oh come on, do it right. She should be in a wheelchair and speak English as a 2nd language too!
And if she goes blind and can't do the sequel, the NDP will make her their next leader!

Yup it will be interesting to see how they pull this off given the history of the franchise and the fact that the 00's all have been individual numbered agents. Although given the hype this has generated my guess is this is what EON pictures wanted in the first place. (edit: Tricks just showed me that the minor agents have used various names for the same designation)
In the end it's just a movie but I still won't be spending my hard earned pension on seeing something I consider a direct attack on the franchise for the sake of political correctness.
So let me know how it turns out and for the sake of the franchise let's hope they don't Ghost Buster or Overboard it.

I also wonder if this isn't just a studio driven misdirection designed to keep the audience from learning who the next James Bond really is. (Irdis Elba) But if I'm wrong and they do this they'll at least be able to fix the potential audience problem by either bringing back Daniel Craig or introducing Irdis Elba as the next real 007.

The movie may be fantastic and the best action movie ever made but, it still won't be a real James Bond 007 Movie.
