Tories misinformed Parliament on G8 fund, may have broken la

OnTheIce OnTheIce:
Another draft obtained by CTV News, said to be a
more recent revision, makes no mention of either illegality or misinformation on the part of the government
but is still damning, saying many of the projects funded in Industry Minister Tony Clement's Muskoka riding had nothing to do with the G8 meetings that were held there. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/s ... ection2011I just thought I'd highlight the other part too. Illegal or not, it's still wrong to fund projects that had nothing to do with the G8 or G20 meetings but pass it off as if they did.
OnTheIce OnTheIce:
Let's reserve judgement.
Until after the election, right?

Where hopefully there will be a Harper majority and no more of those pesky parliamentary committees to worry about.
Tories offer mea culpa for G8 misquote as auditor launches probe into leak
$1:
“We assure you that it was most definitely not our intention to quote you erroneously or out of context,” says the Tory letter, which was signed by the five Conservative MPs on the House government operations committee. “We, and our Conservative colleagues, have the utmost respect for you, your work and your office.”
...
“We apologize unreservedly,” the Conservative MPs note in their letter , adding they will fix the mistake as soon as Parliament reconvenes after the election.
That's a little presumptuous..
$1:
New Democrat Pat Martin, meanwhile, was the one who actually tabled the report in the Commons. The Winnipeg MP was standing in for Mr. McKay.
He said the majority members of the committee have “no opportunity or right to review or amend or comment on the minority report submitted by another party.”
“It is simply attached to the back ,” he said, referring to the majority report, which was damning after the committee spent weeks studying G8 spending.
“It never occurred to me the minority report would contain this kind of falsehood,” Mr. Martin said. “It never occurred to me or us to challenge the veracity of the comments attributed to the Auditor-General. I do remember thinking at the time, ‘Hmmm, they’ve got a pretty strong point here.’ Turns out they just made it up.”
Eeeesh.. Sounds like my M.P. dropped the ball here.

Hey blame the shit-slinging hack for leaking a
draft document during an election.

Blame them for leaking the draft, yes. But there's someone else at blame for something a lot more serious, no?

It's not something I would do, regardless of my political inclinations. If they found out who did they should charge and fire his/her ass.
It's not like funnelling money to cabinet minister ridings is anything new. Then again, it's appropriate to hold their feet to the fire when the politicians get caught doing it.

Yeah I suppose they should be pumping money into ridings where support for the party doesn't exist. That's political suicide but at least it would be fair. Enjoy the one term in power.
I can see it now, Harper pumping millions into Bloc ridings and the Bloc easily taking all the credit for it.
I think this has been going on since the birth of our nation, reward the ridings that support you and keep you in power is one tactic. I don't like it, they all do it, nothing new and it's the nature of the beast.
But if they did it under the guise of the G8 where the money spent had nothing to do with the G8, I'll change my tune. I wish the final report was tabled yesterday but it wasn't and won't be until they are sitting in the house again.
I have no respect for the hack that released this info, but I'll have even less respect for any of the leaders that try to use this as fodder during the debates tonight.

If? Doesn't sound that iffy to me. And of course the leaders will take advantage--it falls right into their attack plan--that Harper doesn't let Parliament know what's going on.
Actually there was two leaks--the origianl "hostile to government" leak and a later "friendly to government" one of a later draft of the AG report. The AG's office has launched a probe into both leaks.
