I was with my wife at home when a friend called and told us to turn on the TV - Lisa asked 'What channel?' and her friend said, 'Any channel.'

We never watched the morning news before this and since then we watch it all the time.

I'm not much for country music but that's not a bad song.

School. First period had yet to start. Walked by the library, people were crowed around a television. I poked my head in to see what was so interesting. There were no classes that day.

I was home with my 2 young kids. It was 4:15 pm. I had a Dutch channel on, and there was breaking news, which is rare in The Netherlands. Or at least it was then... I will never forget it.

I had retired 1 day short a year earlier after returning from my deployment in Zagreb, ROTO 6.
I was then what some on this Forum have called an ATCO Commando, working in VK.

I was on my month off, at home doing nothing, when my wife called.
She informed me that a plane had crashed into a building, no more info than that.
A short time later she called again, told me that a second plane had crashed into the Twin Towers.
I knew we were going to war.
I did not turn the TV on till she came home.

I have a cousin, stewardess. She had been asked by another stewardess to change flights.
The other girl was on the plane that hit the Towers.

At home. I didn't see it live though. I got up , turned on my computer and noticed that the internet was really slow. Then my homepage loaded and the headline was 'Plane Crashes Into WTC'. And I'll admit I didn't realise the scope of it right away. I thought right away what happened in 1945 when a B-24 crashed into the Empire State Building. Then I turned on the TV to CNN and saw the full reality of what had happened.

I did two things that day I rarely, if ever do anymore. I prayed and I cried.

I dropped my two-and-a-half year old cutie off for her first day of nursery school, right after the first plane struck. (I hadn't heard anything, yet.) The nursery school is located in a big, local Anglican church and I came face-to-face with a GLOWERING Anglican priest who said nothing to me. I thought "What an unfriendly fellow" and didn't realize until much later that he was watching it all unfold in real time in his vestry on TV. I saw all of it after the fact and was spared the images of people leaping from the tops of the towers.

I was at a meeting a couple of hours later and some idiot wanted to "call his stock broker". We told him that we thought that the stock exchange might just be closed, today ... all with a straight face. I did remark that Martin Marietta stock was probably going to climb a lot from here on.

Was in class teaching, the classroom door opened and a fellow teacher shouted, a plane has crashed into the Toronto CN Tower, it's on TV. Minutes later I got the real horrific news.

Just finished the graveyard shift at 7:00am PT heard a plane had hit the WTC, got home just in time to turn on the tube and see the collapse of the north tower.

wildrosegirl @ Thu Sep 11, 2014 7:29 pm

Got home from walking my boys to school and heard the newscasts on the radio.

I was very sad for my son that day. What a world he came into.
