But that's not the end of the story.
Of course some organization of crybaby atheists heard about it and sent the following whiny missive...
$1:
As a place of public accommodation, it is illegal for Mary's Gourmet Diner to discriminate, or show favoritism, on the basis of religion, the letter said. Your restaurant's restrictive promotional practice favors religious customers, and denies customers who do not pray and nonbelievers the right to full and equal enjoyment of Mary's Gourmet Diner.
and then...
$1:
On Thursday (Aug. 6), a handwritten board near the front door announced that the restaurant would no longer offer the prayer discount.

The restaurant can gives the discounts it wants, no matter what they are... you don't like it, you don't go there.
Besides, there's a difference between, "we like you, here's a discount" and, "we don't like you, we're going to charge you more than the advertised price".

I would think there'd be an issue if you gave discounts only to Arabs.. Or white people...
...and in some bars they have "ladies night"... equally offensive.

Keep your religion in your church.
Silly policy anyways.

Good idea. Bring your prayer carpet and offer prostrations to Allah. Or maybe some sort of Wiccan chant.
It's their thing. Nothing wrong with it.
non kneelers are paying the prices listed on the menu, not being charged a different price. Businesses are entitled to give discounts to whomever they please, for what ever reason they feel. Plenty of cops and armed guards eat for 50% off or for free at restaurants, while on duty.

FFS hand coupons out in church. Then there wouldn't be a problem, would there?
People should just STFU and live and let live. There`s enough crap in the world for this to be pretty low on the who gives fuck scale but, of course some self righteous asshats who think someone`s getting something they aren`t are gonna make it an issue bigger than it ever should have been.
Freedom of religion and freedom from religion get equal billing here, so if atheists want the discount the can pray for it in whatever way floats their boat, or they can go to a restaurant that gives discounts for not believing in God but they`d be much better served if they didn`t pull the aggrieved party act while trying to fuck someone else over because of their beliefs.

This.

When it comes to things like ladies' night at the bar, discounts for seniors, discounts for students etc... those are somehow perfectly acceptable though.
But yeah, let's get all pissy because a restaurant gives a discount to a specific group of people.
The question that needs to be asked is, are people who don't pray getting charged 15% more than the menu price? NO? Then what the fuck is the problem?
I think some atheists need to understand that private business is NOT the govt. There is NOTHING that states there must be a separation of religion and private enterprise. As long as customers aren't being refused service because of their lack of religious beliefs, or are the "wrong" religion, then who the hell cares?
