By allowing Canadian troops to be involved in U.S. patrols and security work, the Canadian government has given up the opportunity to rectify the injustices perpetrated against the people of this country. If the goal is to fight terrorism, much more can be accomplished through peace building and reconstruction at the invitation of the Afghan people. At the same time, according to a report by Canada's former ambassador for disarmament and arms control at the United Nations, Peggy Mason, more terrorists have been found internationally through information-sharing and police work, than through occupying forces.

Like the majority of Canadians, The Canadian Action Party does not support our troops involvement in a mission which puts them under US Command, with rules of engagement that must be kept secret. However even if a debate were to take place, the "take note" debate process put in place by the Chretien Liberal government, will give MP's very little democratic input in where or how we deploy our troops. And if we fail to address the implications of the North American Security and Prosperity Agreement, the deep integration of Canada's military with the U.S. and the consequent abdication of our ability to make independent foreign policy decisions, will continue to haunt us.

Our troops are legally bound to uphold the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and international laws against torture. It is our duty to support them by making sure they are not put in a situation where these obligations cannot be met. That is why the Canadian Action Party calls for the restoration of democracy in Canadian parliament through a full parliamentary vote on present and future military deployments. The Canadian Action Party also calls for the preservation of Canadian sovereignty through a full parliamentary debate and vote on the North American Security and Prosperity Agreement.

the canadian armed forces are nothing more than thugs now doing the dirty work for uncle sam's oil lobby.

they are no longer peacekeepers, now they put canada in danger from those who swear revenge on us .

and debate is the right of all canadians, debate should have been country wide and certainly televised from parliment...

then again we have a business man in power that will make money for his friends on this madness and ensure him a comfortable retirement, while our troops come home in body bags.

A suggestion It seems there is more than a few who post here having strong concerns for the direction of this country
the types of submissions and the responces seem to bear this out and although the responses are out of proportion to the readership that could be perhaps a good thing in as much as those of us who contribute here may offer a positive force, of just individual nutbars.

Write well folks

You say that most of the terrorists involved in the 911 attacks were from Saudi Arabia, got any proof of that? None of the accused terrorists have been tried in any competent way shape or form other than by the media monsters and the white washouts who composed the 911 ommission report. I didn't hear any mention of the increase in opium production since the Taliban was exterminated either. Where are we getting our information about what is going on over there and why should we trust these sources?

Thanks Catherine,

CAP's policies and your voice certainly help to fill that void that is out there. Celine Herieux-Payette, the Senator that responded to the USAmerican family about their protest of the seal hunt spoke for truth today as well. I am convinced that Canadians would not have to attack USA if the men in government actually spoke in clear voices that sounded like "Canadian" policies. Good for Canada policies. This does not happen so when you get attacked for their lack it makes a person mad. The trouble is the wrong people end up taking the brunt of the attacks and the truth.

U.N. drug control officers said the Taliban religious militia has nearly wiped out opium production in Afghanistan -- once the world's largest producer -- since banning poppy cultivation last summer.

A 12-member team from the U.N. Drug Control Program spent two weeks searching most of the nation's largest opium-producing areas and found so few poppies that they do not expect any opium to come out of Afghanistan this year.

"We are not just guessing. We have seen the proof in the fields," said Bernard Frahi, regional director for the U.N. program in Afghanistan and Pakistan. He laid out photographs of vast tracts of land cultivated with wheat alongside pictures of the same fields taken a year earlier -- a sea of blood-red poppies.

A State Department official said Thursday all the information the United States has received so far indicates the poppy crop had decreased, but he did not believe it was eliminated.
There is no person more dangerous then a Liberal when they are cornered or out of office. They act like wild animals which is probably in their character. No wonder 50' outside of our borders no one takes much concern of us. As one paper in US mentioned Canadians are like little orphan annie that uses the f word. Believe the Christian Science Monitor in Boston described as thus; "Canada is like a retarded cousin that we pat on the head at Christmas time and forget about him til next Christmas". I wonder why that would be.

My guess?

because half the world is filled with little neocon george bush "mini me" types such as yourself?

If you REALLY knew and understood what the US is up to globally, you'd be hiding under your bed trying not to sh*t yourself.

canadians like retarded little brothers...

i guess that's why so few AMERIKANS really don't care how many body bags we get coming back to canada.

in the long run, they care only about their own and because canadians share in the numbers of dead, the generals and politicians can now play with the numbers.

and we all know how the numbers games are played now don't we

Please pardon the reality interruption, this will take but a moment of your time. But sometimes you just have to shake your head in amazement.....

Ok, lets say for a minute that your dream occurs. All foreign troops get on a plane this minute and leave Afghanistan. Now what happens? The Taliban and Al Qaeda will wave at the planes, go back to their caves and live the rest of their lives in peace and harmony wacked out on opium? Ummm.....I don't think so.

Please adjust your tin-foil hats for a moment. The Taliban and Al Qaeda are not a knitting club. And yes, I know that you're all imbued with the all-encompassing knowledge that 9/11 was a massive conspiracy by "THEM" to control the universe and enslave all of mankind.

But you know, Al Qaeda sheltered by the Taliban, may just have actually been the people who were responsible for flying those planes into the WTC and the Pentagon. They may actually have been responsible for 10 bombs going off in rush hour in Madrid. They may actually be driving cars filled with explosives and setting them off to kill and maim as many people as possible.

Hard to believe I know, but it just could be true.

And so, keeping that in mind, do you honestly believe that the Taliban and Al Qaeda will not immediately return to their previous activities. With even more viciousness and vigour, and even more emboldened in their cause by the inconvenience of being forced into caves for the last 3 years? Even more angered by having to use borrowed computers to post videos of their hostages, prior to their slaughter, on the Internet?

Would it be better if we were removing the bodies of car bomb victims on Bloor Street, or Rideau Street? Make no mistake, those car bombs are one terrorists plane ride from Afghanistan to Canada away.

We have to hunt them down, find them, and fight them where they are. Right now.

You may now resume your previous activities.

P.S. Oh, by the way, did you know that flouride in the water is a government conspiracy to poison the population? Hey it's true! I heard it from this guy who heard it from another guy. And I saw a web page on it too. So it must be true.

What a strange argument you pose. What does the worlds lack of interest in Canada have to do with uncaring about body bags. That's the trouble with this site. Most of the people at this site (me included) should be in some kind of home.
