In answer to your question, I boldly proclaim
“NOT I!”
But of course an eye is kept on us! The ‘they’ must protect their investments, mustn’t they?
I recall reading in “None Dare Call It Conspiracy” there are centres located in universities throughout American where various scenarios are plotted.
One could bet the bank, if the bank would accept such a bet, that leadership conventions and responses to those outcomes are EXACTLY eyes are kept on.

I was very surprised Dion won. But it is a good thing as he is clearly by his track record in comparison to the others - the lessor of a number of evils.

His Quebec connections also bode well for the next election in that it all but guarantees the Conservatives get their usual 0 seats there.

Until about 3-4 weeks ago, I thought that Rae was the best choice.

Then I heard about Stefane Dion.

And strangely, the more I heard and found out about him, the more I was convinced that he was the better man.

By the time the convention took place, I was hoping that he'd win but never actually expected him to.

By the time the fourth ballot took place, I was almost ready to pinch myself.

At the end of the day, for once, I found myself going to sleep with something approaching hope.

Hope that the bad guys won't win after all.

Iggy tried too hard to "say" what he thought Canadians wanted to "hear". He obviously is not a good politician that listened to his coach. The new boy on the block hadn't yet, opened his mouth without istening. The whole game is just that. Say what the voter wants to hear but do what the party tells you. Quebec and Ontario are "the" voters in this country and it is them who must be appeased. Once through the door and in the house, no government feels obliged to speak loudly. Dion "said the words" that his party knew would get them through the door. Dion only has to nurse the voter until the next election. We all know it goes no further, don't we?

Can we say Pop Goes the Iggy?

"we must offer our own project to Canadians, a
generous and ambitious vision that is in stark contrast
to Mr. Harper's selfish and narrow idea of Canada."

Amen to that! Selfish and narrow can be inferred to
mean catering to a select group of people at the
expense of the masses.

Dion was the correct choice because the Libs had to
gain back some credibility which they had lost. Iggy is
perceived as a dubious character with little experience
who would have hurt the party more than helped it.

Dion said he will win Quebec by reinforcing the value of staying within Canada, "inviting Quebecers to share the same vision, the same dream, the same action plan as all other Canadians."

He has a very positive, inclusive approach and an outlook that I admire and trust. Left up to him and not the backroom boys I think he would make a find Prime Minister, one that actually does have the best interests of Canada in his heart. Him stating the above made me think of this quote:

"If you want to build a ship
don't herd people together to collect wood
and don't assign them tasks and work,
but rather teach them to long for the
endless immensity of the sea."

Antoine-Marie-Roger de Saint-Exupery

I'm a Green but I really like Gerard Kennedy and Stephane Dion and no matter which leader each party has I long for all to be admirable people with Canada in their hearts. The divisive, hateful Liberal, Conservative anti-Canada bunch we've been dealing with really need to go.

4Canada: what a beautiful way of saying it. I'm pretty sure we all get
weary of hand-wringing and shrieks of "No hope! Everything is sleaze!
We're all gonna die!!" Disillusionment becomes IMO a kind of sickness.

There's good health in constructive visualization ... and I think Stephane
Dion can fairly give us that symbollic concept, right now.

I'm glad for him. And for all of us. Time to rejoice. Thanks, 4C.

Stephane in Ottawa, 'Steady Eddie' in Alberta. What a great weekend.

I think Canadian politics is swaying toward the little guy.

Strange, talk about out of left field!

Well, they have MY vote now in the next election. I guess maybe that was what they were thinking, that Iggy was really just "Harper Light" and could not hope to win an election against him.

To me that is the key word: Hope. Dion's win gives hope to those of us who believe we need a different direction for the country. I may not vote Liberal in the next election but I feel far more hopeful that things could change with Dion as Prime Minister.

Diogenes @ Mon Dec 04, 2006 12:04 pm

Yup! Its Déjà vu all over again. The party atmosphere of a convention, heady sensation of a new beginning, all built on a hope of betterment,
Hooray, Hip, hip HOORAY!
The “little guy” will have hope!
The streets will be pave with gold
A chicken in every pot, and with luck some pot for every chick.

All that has happened , Dear souls, is a little balm for the troubled mind(s)

Time will pass and the bloom will fall off the rose
And it will be Déjà vu all over again.

A few people get together for changing of the guard and it’s all tiptoe through the tulips
Well, I’ve about used all the cliché’s I want to for now, but what I wonder will it take foe people to get reality trumps hope, and the reality of creating a society to which you wish to belong will take a hellova lot mot than the illusion of the bad guy stopped in his , or her tracks

I'm far from naive concerning federal politics Dio, believe me.

But tell me, of the two "evils", would you prefer a Dion Prime Ministership or a continuation of the disaster known as the Harper PMO?

And far from trumping hope, reality is actually hope realized.

Hope without action is precisely the same as faith without action.

It is dead and useless.

It all depends on what you do with it, and how badly you want it.

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, ever got changed without desire.

And concerning hope I have another quote I like made by Rita Mae Brown:

Most importantly I do not base my determinations on the choices you’ve offered as I see those choices as part of a continuum that needs to be stopped dead in its tracks and replaced with the committed effort(s) of a society who seek just government though out the land.
As I have asserted elsewhere the choice between two evils is still evil and as long as we as a society are willing to accept the lesser, that is exactly what we will get.

Here is a return quote for you
“If you keep doing what you’ve always done you will keep getting what you’ve always gotten.”

And this one
“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly wile expecting a different result.”
Choosing the lesser is exactly that !
