"Those who would sacrifice a little Liberty for more Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Benjamin Franklin
More than anything, it's disturbing to hear an American journalist make that assertion that they 'allow us to exist on this continent'.
For me, it is another example of the American psyche; it's fractured and seeks to diminish the voice of other countries, either by war or by words.
Coulter has been discredited up and down over and over again. Her writing is about as good as a six year old's. Actually that is insulting to six year olds. She lies, can't quote properly and always uses things way out of context. I doubt she has ever even been to Canada.
As for Carlson, he's not a journalist, not even close. He is in the same category as Pills Limbaugh.Plus he wears bad ties. Jerry Jay Jimmy Bob, Carlson, and Coulter all make good company.
It is interesting to note that so many purely inflammatory, unsupported opinion comments are 'Anonymous'. Why not at least let your name be known if you believe what you're saying enough to post it.
Having said that - your point IS arguable, much as I hate to admit it. I haven't heard comments like that (i.e. "They're lucky we let them exist") regarding Quebec, and I would argue that it's a very different situation between "the rest of Canada" and Quebec. Quebec being a member of our nation, like Ontario, Alberta, or any other province, irrespective of the clear differences that may exist between it and the remainder of the country, it is offensive to some Canadians that Quebecers are perceived to have so many rights and to receive so much - I say 'perceived' because I'm not trying to either prove or disprove claims. My point is that the United States and Canada are two separate sovereign nations, and Canada is not 'America Jr.' despite the amount of Americanization which has certainly already occurred here.
With regard to the lack of a military - true. Canada has none to speak of. I would argue, however, that it is not a result necessarily of complacence, but of opportunism. America is thrilled to flex its military muscle and more than willing to protect the whole of North America for fear of placing any control in Canada's hands, so why not spend that money on health care and other social programs? I'm not saying that it makes sense, but my argument would be that if the US was not so willing to provide military muscle then Canada may not have such a valueless military.
Makes me think somehow about their CRTC (called the FCC) worrying about Janet Jackson's clothing dysfunction. I suppose whatever gets you the vote and/or the money works well in the land of low substance abuse. Entertainment value is good but after too much it makes one puke and/or have to go for detox... Please say "No to drugs (in all its forms)". Funny that they feel the urge to come here to get some substance. More entertainment.

"We are all in this together somehow, some more than others somehow"
From what I hear, Coulter is all hate and no substance. I actually heard part of the other show (on As it happens, I think) and it was quite funny. The guy came across as totally ridiculous, a stereotypical ignorant Yank.
I am always surprised when I surf US websites by the amount of pure hatred and the constant lies spewed out in all the media. Don't they have libel laws?
I used to have a real hate for Buchanen as well, but the man does speak out against the neocons because he also sees them for what they are - todays facist regime all wrapped up in the American flag, apple pie and something called morals.
Libel laws only exist for old rich white men.
Actually, America is lucky to have good neighbours like Canada. Peaceful neighbours that prefer talks over war, neighbours that give up more than their share of resources to America`s gluttonous society, and neighbours, who in the 1950`s aspired to build its own military in aid of continental defense against the Soviets, when we built the Avro-Arrow, yet this didn`t sit well with America and her wounded pride, given that Sputnik, and the Arrow, the world`s most advanced fighter jet (which would still be a front runner today) were introduced to the world on the same day in 1957! The Soviets were the first in space, and america`s northern neighbour had a jet 30 years ahead of its time! But there was the US, aspiring superpower, falling behind! How could their northern dogsled drivivg neighbours even conceive such a thing, let alone build it? So when Eisenhower and co. cried to Prime Minister Diefenbaker, " But we want to be the superpower, we don`t want Canada building anything better than us," we gave in, scrapped the Arrow, and fell under America`s 'protective' right wing. We thought that since we also contributed to N.A. defense through Norad and the DEW line, among other things, Canada and the USA would be just swell friends, sharing the world`s 'longest undefended border.' But as time rolled on, and instead of treating Canada with respect for its gesture of goodwill, suddenly, the bullying slowly started. Turns out we weren`t partners after all. I mean, not only did NASA get those Avro scientists and engineers, but the USA got Canada`s pledge of solidarity. But it meant NOTHING, like a back-stabbing brother when his father dies, stealing the entire inheritance from his siblings. But to those who say in the USA that Canada is lucky to be allowed to live on the same continent, well, GET USED TO IT! We`ve been here since 1812, and we`re not going anywhere! THE MAPLE LEAF FOREVER!!!

Coulter gems:

"I have to say I'm all for public flogging. One type of

criminal that a public humiliation might work particularly
well with are the juvenile delinquents, a lot of whom

consider it a badge of honor to be sent to juvenile

wonder what she said about the Singapore incident?)

And the CRTC is going to let this onto our air? Coulter
should get the same hate-speech bleeping that al Jazeera's

subjected to.
two years ago, we turned the idiot box off, radio too. Can you guys see why?
Hey Jesse or Sue, can we get a story on home schooling sometime soon? thanks.
Feel free to submit some, preferably with canadian spin on them. Find something suitable and use the 'submit' link in the menu. It sounds like you would be able to find good stories about it much more easily than I.
Oh, and don't call her Sue

Jeez, it's just amazing reading this stuff. I would hate to think all Canadians are as self deluded as the people who post here. The self pity and victimhood is astonishing; so is the envy of the U.S. By all means get your censors to ban Ann Coulter. She just might make you think outside the box of the nanny-state socialism that appears to have robbed you of common sense. If that were to happen the whole edifice -- the grotesquely swollen self importance and belief that you count in any global sense, the blinkered view of the world that sees terrorists and "Amerikka" as equivalent -- might come down, bringing with it all the sick paranoia and demented theorizing. People, push away from the computer. Go seek a life.

Have you ever tried watching something other than FOX? It just might make you think outside the box of the panic-stricken fascism that appears to have robbed you of common sense. If that were to happen the whole edifice -- the grotesquely swollen self importance and belief that you understand anything in any global sense, the blinkered view of Americans that see your country as defender of "democracy" and "morality" -- might come down, bringing with it all the sick paranoia and demented theorizing. Good copy job. Now try to write something original.
