Go, Dr Caleb, go! Man, haven't we heard enough (and more) from
Childe Harald ... who was he tormenting before he discovered
Vive le Canada?

The single flaw in Vive's style, IMO, is that it attracts more than its
fair share of trolls. I've had friends turn away from Vive because of
their degrading style of debate.

Could Vive institute a QUOTA system? Surely Childe Harald
doesn't need to regurgitate after EVERY story and EVERY
comment?

Kittens? LOL

"The single flaw in Vive's style, IMO, is that it attracts more than its fair share of trolls. I've had friends turn away from Vive because of their degrading style of debate."

That's unfortunate about your friends, but we like fully open debate. Every site attracts trolls, but unlike mapleafweb or freerepublic, we don't ban people because they don't think the same as us. That just generates a boring echo chamber. Trolls at least help us understand our own opinions in how we defend our opinions toward them.

With all the talk on Afghanistan these days, I thought this article would at least help people here understand why people would pick up a gun and defend a position for their country, or for the child formerley living under a brutal dictatorship. No matter what happens in Afghanistan, I don't want soldiers returning from there or Hati to undergo what I experience everytime I tell people I was in Somalia.

Armyguy,
Are Canadians the most uniformed people in the world as you've stated, or are you trying to say that they're uninformed? :) (Sorry for being a smartass - I know what you meant)

I'll assume that you typoed uninformed, and on that point, I beg to differ. Most Canadians refuse to fall for the hype and lies of 9/11, showing that they're more informed than you believe them to be.

With that said, to all those who have enlisted believing that they're protecting Canada - all the power to them. Wanting to protect one's country is a noble goal, so why should they be disparaged? Doesn't mean I agree that being in Afghanistan or elsewhere protects Canada - but that's why I didn't enlist, which is also my right.

Rico AB.

Dr Caleb, please take the high road and avoid ending up in such conversational dead ends. :/ When trolls argue, everybody loses.

have to agree with Dr. C here.

Even if we find the style used to be odious, if the contributor honestly believes they have a valid point, they should be allowed to voice it.

If their point truly is valid, it will survive.

If it's hackkneed, it will die an extremely swift death.

All censorship does is give someone a valid reason to claim that "their ideas are being suppressed".

Defending one`s country is truly a noble gesture- if we`re threatened. But Afghanistan is hardly a threat to Canada! Our soldiers are currently there to aid in America`s imperialist wars, and protect the pipelines. If Canada were attacked, I`d sign up, but to sign up for bogus reasons, is stupid!

Yeah, sure. Those Taliwackers are gonna row over here and attack us. We don't need to go to Afghanistan to find our enemy, it lies south of the 49th.

haraldkann @ Wed Mar 22, 2006 8:49 pm

HEY ARMYGUY,YOU EVER HEAR OF LEGISLATING A BILL
they can enact conscription with a simple vote in parliment and if the neocons get a majority, your kid can be DRAFTED.

haraldkann @ Wed Mar 22, 2006 8:56 pm

bc mary, you don't want me posting? must be ,because you prefer censorship ,by your own words.

i will be glad to point that out now to anyone with my postings in your pathetic offerings.but notice i did not ask for your pathetic offerings to be censored.

you holier than thou, you deserve the company you keep, halfwits

Armyguy @ Fri Mar 24, 2006 6:42 am

BOOTLICKER? Is that your best. A bill, damn it took 2 yrs during WW2 to get constription through. And it was not even conscription as in the US. 90% of the soldiers that were conscripted stayed in Canada.
If you read my posts @#$%head, I have 2 daughters in the military. Hanns, you really don't wait to tell me why, you left.

If your creeped out, growup. It's the real world. Get out and see. By the way, protesting does nothing , but have people your a freak. Yes a freak. If you can spend your money on that, means one thing. WELFARE BUM! For real people would not spend their own money on it.
And don't call me, if the Army is needed at your home. Because, like every thing esle, everyone bashes us, until we are needed. IE Winnipeg Flood, Ice Storm, etc.

As a patriotic Canadian, I feel quite ashamed that Canadian troops are in Afghanistan, upholding a constitution that completely denies freedom of religion.

(An Afghani man who converted to Christianity from Islam years ago while living outside the country, is now being formally charged for doing that. This is ridiculous.)

Canada should have no purpose there except peacekeeping. But I guess there are nations that do not want peace.

Armyguy @ Fri Mar 24, 2006 10:20 am

I and many others wish we never fell into that PEACEKEEPER trap. This for one reason. Canadians only think of us as such. But the rest of the world respects us as SOLDIERS. We did a good thing, but now, look where we are. Canadians don't know what our military does. Canadians are the only people that does not know what a military does. Americans, Brits, Dutch, Germains, ANZACs, Japan, etc. Knows about their military, their history, what their soldiers,sailors,airmen/women do. Not here in Canada, Canadians are too stupid and are stuck in time.
Here's how a few questions.
1. Do we have Marines?
2. What was Vimy?
3. When was Dieppe?
4. What is a Ilitis vehicle?
5. Where are our biggest bases at?
6. Do we have Rangers?
7. Were we under UN command in Bosnia, during the IFOR/SFOR flag?
8. What was the lost UN mission to run?
9. What was the first UN mission we were deployed to?
10.How many stars does Canadian Generals wear.
11. Did peacekeepers ever fight and where? name one

Look at London? NY?,Madid?,etc. They don't have to march with tanks to kill you.
I'm not a big fan of the US. But get real.
