The council's edict reflects existing Israeli military/religious law. The chaplain for the IDF forces says, "In war, when our forces storm the enemies, they are allowed and even enjoined by the Halakah to kill even good civilians, that is, civilians that are ostensibly good." 2
Such official standards come from binding Jewish law, or Halakah, contained in the Babylonian Talmud. The Talmud is the highest religious and ethical authority for the state of Israel and religious Jews. The Talmudic 'proof text' for Yesha's decision came from treatise Abodah-Zarah 26b, where Rabbi Simeon Ben Yohai says: "The best among the gentiles deserves to be killed. The best of snakes ought to have its head crushed."
Is the author of such bloodthirsty racism denounced in our time? Hardly. Rabbi Ben Yohai is one of the earliest and therefore most respected of Talmudic rabbis. He is so beloved by Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel that every year at his birth place, in Meron, tens of thousands gather for days in the festival of Lag Ba Omar to sing and dance in honor of his memory. The prestigious Encyclopedia Judaica, in its article on him, describes Ben Yohai as one of the giants of Judaism for all time.

Thanks to have it confirmed what is the real "rogue state" in the world, and that the "axis of evil" runs through Tel Aviv and Washington.
Then if this is the case then why do the Yesha Rabbinical Council and the Israeli Government always refer to the Israeli women and children that die as a deliberate murder of "innocent" and a justification to do the same against their enimies? Where is the terrorism then if all are combatants?

People who use their belief systems to justify hurting others are quite simply psychologically ill. This applies to all religions and ideologies.
We are still a rather primitive species, unfortunately.

That means the two IDF soldiers whose "kidnapping" allegedly started this latest round of fighting, are in fact POW's for sure.........

I think that this must be put in some context. This comes from the council of Yesha, that is related to the illegal settlers in the Occupied Territories. They are a more radical group (and with reason - should the Israeli government decide to leave the territories altogether, they lose everything and have to start anew elsewhere within the officially recognized borders of Israel.)
For another perspective, on July 27, and I quote: "July 27, 2006, Jerusalem, Holy Land: Several hundred Anti Zionist Orthodox Jews protested in the center of Jerusalem against the recent invasion of Lebanon and Gaza."
"The Talmud is the highest religious and ethical authority for the state of Israel and religious Jews."
It may be the highest accepted authority, but it is grossly inferior to the Torah in matters of both moral and ethical conduct.

O.K... Israelis are biggoted and guilty of war crimes against humanity. Whaddaya do. My fingers are sore from sending e-mails and writing letters. Rallys and demonstrations don't work because no matter how big they are they remain a focus group to the likes of the great decider and his puppets. It makes me just sigh when nothing seems to work. This feels like revolution on a global scale is needed. I fear we need a Chavez to counter the tyranny. However the facsist thought police are everywhere and to speak of such would be considered terrorism. Where is the charismatic left wing leader we need. I don't know, maybe the bat signal; )
"This feels like revolution on a global scale is needed."
I agree Mallus
Not necessarily on the from of revolution, but certainly an awakening or cosmic rapture in thinking.
One of the positive aspects of Israel's actions is I am beginning to see a challenge to the "Staus Queue"
I love that phrase it reminds me of Bush the First's 'Line in the sand' or Baby Bush's 'Yer either with us or against us'

Thanks for the clarification, but why does the Israeli Government preach the same line of defence for its actions?

It seems that the "Rabbinic Concil" has just put its rabbinic foot in its rabbinic mouth and has just cancelled the "Holocaust" as I am sure that the Third Reich also thought they were killing their ennemies and that they were no innocent victims.
Mallus, for my part I have been visiting this list of bloggers. Sometimes, you can feel the fear and the despair in the posts. You can provide some comfort by leaving a comment just to let the person know that he/she is not alone. It's not much, I know, but ... The site also contains links to media reports and one blog in particular provides a minute-by-minute update of events on the ground.
As well, there is this site that contains information on ways to help.
Finally, I think that if we blog about the issue, that it will serve to keep it active and hopefully contribute to the pressure on the government to act. I was glad today to read that the Libs & the NDP are insisting that Harper add Canada's voice to the growing number of countries that are clamouring for a ceasefire.
why does the Israeli Government preach the same line of defence for its actions?
Jenson, if you mean why does the Israeli government does not treat them any differently than the other Israelis (which I believe you mean), then the answer to that is that they are regular citizens of Israel. I do not know the particulars of the way that they administer themselves (still reading about it), but yes, in terms of their civic rights and duties, they are full-fledged citizens of the state of Israel. Perhaps if other readers here have more information, they could share. If that's not what you meant, please explain.
>>there is no such thing as 'innocence' among the enemy<<
I have heard the Israeli Government preach the same line of defence for its actions against civilanes ex. non combatants, civilians, the old, women and children.
If this is such rightous thing the Israeli Government is doing then why did't the British Government do the same thing in Northern Ireland?
Also why doesn’t the British Government do the same as the Israeli Government bombing, tarring down houses and arresting Sein Finn members, the political wing of the IRA, to kill and rout out the IRA exterminating them from existence?
How can one look at one terrorist group differently then another just because they exsist in different locations.
