How exactly do you ensure that the country doesn't revert to it's prior state where it was a danger to us? You help the people get on their feet, establish schools, infrastructure, hospitals, government.

These things are not mutually exclusive.

If the goal is to make sure that Afghanistan is transformed into a society that's not a threat to our society, then it would make sense to actually try and help the people.

However, helping the people is NOT at all the reason why we are there. The official reason given prior to the invasion, was that we had to get rid of the Taliban, because the Taliban had been supporting Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist group which attacked a NATO ally.

The problem I have with the official reason for going to war in Afghanistan is that I have yet to see any evidence suggesting that Afghanistan under Taliban rule was a threat to Canada or any of its NATO allies. The official claim is that 9/11 serves as hard evidence that the Taliban were a threat, however nothing of real substance has ever been shown to back up the theory.

We all saw with our own eyes in real time the collapse of the twin towers, there's no denying that an attack took place, however we have yet to see evidence showing who was behind the attacks. What has been presented so far, is very flimsy or based on "trust us we know who did it" statements devoid of actual evidence. Even the FBI failed to list Osama Bin Laden as a 9/11 suspect because they had (and still have) no evidence linking him to the crime.

Despite a complete absence of evidence, the invasion took place anyway. Later, it was discovered that the invasion appears to have been preplanned before 9/11. Therefore, given the official story, even the 9/11 attacks were not the actual reason for the invasion!

So what was? We do know that direct negotiations were going on with the Taliban and with US based oil interests. We also know that around the time after those negotiatiopns fell through, that the MSM began pumping out negative stories about the Taliban (I'm sure some of you who are reading this will remember this happening - if so please post what you know about it). It appears that the reason for the invasion had more to to with the Taliban NOT agreeing to US demands for a secure oil and gas pipeline, than with the Taliban being a threat due to supporting terrorism.

I'll now switch gears and go back to the problems associated with the "reconstruction" of Afghanistan ...

Even after building roads, schools, hospitals, and so on, there's absolutely NO guarantee that the society will be transformed into what the reconstruction crew desires. Therefore, the only way to ensure that the society is "freindly", is to have a permanent military presence in the country with full control over the Afghan government - and that's NOT freedom or democracy. I know this, and no doubt most Afghans know this as well. The bridges and schools will only serve as an insult or symbol of oppression, rather than as a symbol of assistance.

No one in our government is officially talking about this reality, and our MSM is ignoring the real issues completely, and ignoring the lies that led up to the invasion.

The result of all this, is that the war effort is illegitimate and a fraud, and no matter how you try and dress it up, it remains illegitimate and a fraud. Generally speaking, nothing good ever comes from actions that are based on lies and deceit, but that's what we have going for us in Afghanistan.

Canada will be paying a high price for this mess years down the road. The sooner we pull out, the better.
