I know that 'Battlefield 5' will have some details released next week.

BF5 sucks. The lag on the official servers fucks the game up beyond recognition. You shoot someone only to find out they already shot you first due to the lag.

The servers 'rubber band' rather frequently.

The WW2 gameplay is less like Battlefield and more like COD.

So I've gone back to BF4 and judging from the increases in server pop on BF4 so have a lot of other players.

BF5 also doesn't give you much opportunity to exploit terrain in creative ways. Like you can't ever land from a parachute onto a rooftop. No way. Not allowed.

It's designed for the meth-addled run-n'-gun style of gameplay and I frankly hate it.

I've been gravitating more toward the 'massively open' and 'creative' kind of gaming. My experience with CoD is just like yours in BF5. Horrible lag. Not worth my time to catch bullets and improve some one elses' score.

I play mostly No Mans' Sky now. It doesn't really have limits. You want to farm crops. Be a farmer. Be a miner, and mine asteroids somewhere. Attack ships and become a pirate if you like. If you want to explore, look for black holes and fly into them. 8O

The developers don't really put limits on what you do. They give you puzzles to solve, if you feel like it.

I enjoy NMS too. I wonder what the expansion is this year.

Llama - have you ever played co-operatively in NMS? I had a random pubber join my game once. He was a couple star systems away, so I flew over and said 'hi'. I didn't actually manage to see or interact with him though.

Twice. Once was a random. He visited my old base, and the other time was my buddy, who's game crashed as he entered my planet's atmosphere.

I did manage to follow the icon to the guy's location, but I showed up in a big ship, so he might have been scared I was going to frag him. Truth is, he had nothing I wanted. But he didn't get out of his ship, so I just left a beacon that said "RUN YOU FOOL, THEY ARE COMING".

Nice.

BEEP BEEP BEST GAME OF THE YEAR COMING THROUGH!

In other news Dota's International prize pool is closing in on 30 million. With about a month and a half of funding to go.

FFS I'm still playing L4D2 because of the communities mods's. We have our own server and can keep the bastards who ruined the BF and COD franchises off it, a fact which makes gaming infinitely more enjoyable plus we can run it with 16 players so pretty much everybody can get on at the same time.

As for any new games, TBH I haven't seen one that I'd just have to have except maybe the new L4D3 one which has no firm release date. But hopefully if they ever do release it they'll leave it open source so the community can continue to build campaigns. A fact which has kept this franchise alive for over 11 years.

But if someone was to come out with a good multiplayer FPS that the hackers hadn't taken over I'd be amenable.

Rust isn't bad, though not a strictly FPS. And I've been playing insurgency sandstorm and haven't encountered any hackers yet. Game is a lot of fun.

DrCaleb @ Wed Jul 17, 2019 11:56 am

Can confirm.

Played Rust with the clan for many months. It did start getting boring when we could start out naked and hungry, then progress to having a giant metal tower in about a week. Then start over . . .

Got a bit repetitive.

Yeah, that's why me and my buddies only play it for a couple weeks every few months. Maybe if I get my own server spun up we'd do it more often. Kind of a necessary evil, otherwise what do you do when you have your giant metal tower? You can only raid oil rigs, shoot down choppers, and blow up other bases so much before that becomes tedious. For a lot of the people who play I think half the fun is the build up.

DrCaleb @ Wed Jul 17, 2019 12:11 pm

Hmmm. There were no 'rigs' or 'choppers' last time I played. Might be time to re-install.

We had our own server, and one of us admind it, but it was public. We did a 'special' night on Thursdays, where we'd have special events. I remember where there were shacks set up, and in the shacks were boxes with papers. On the papers were numbers. If you got the all the numbers in all the shacks. it was the combo to a safe with a major prize in in.

Or we'd set up a Roman style arena and have deathmatches, or Olympic style games in it. With prizes.

And lots of airdrops. :)

Fun times!
