Scape Scape:
Go woke go broke is now go faschy no cashy.

Tell it to Top Gun.

Saw a guy make the comment that 2022 was "the lowest grossing year at the box office in 2022" and said not including covid years (implying "wokeness" is what made it bad).

I guess 100 million cases and 1.1 people dying from covid in 2022 makes it not a covid year.

57% higher than the normally highest cause of death (heart disease).

Right wingers are truly living in their own reality.

The two most woke films of 2020 were Strange World and Bros. They both bombed.

The most balls to the wall (even the female pilot), Hoo-rah, America First film of 2022 was Top Gun. It was also the top Box office winner.

AOC's climate change documentary couldn't pull in more than $80 per theatre. Take that Gina Moreno. AOC at least had distributers.

$1:
Comedian Jon Stewart's new Apple TV+ streaming show and podcast called "The Problem with Jon Stewart" was also a "flop," according to several reports. By the show's fifth episode in March, viewership went down 78%, according to Bloomberg.

Stewart's show has been criticized for its "super-woke" takes on race.

I didn't want to get into it with you when you posted that video from the phony who likes to dress up like a red neck for his videos but how'd you like to debate me on whether or not Yellowstone is woke, Scape? It's not. I don't care how much CYA Taylor Sheridan does claiming it is. It's traditional America fighting it out with the modern. And how are the wokeys doing in that battle on Yellowstone? Who are we cheering for? Why are we tuning in? Not for the woke. We want to watch John and Beth and Rip kick the ass of the modern world. That includes the woke. John's almost got environmental activist Summer Higgins converted.

Shall we talk She-Hulk? How about Batgirl? TV series or the film that got cancelled before it was released.

See, here's the problem. You're looking at these movies through the stupidly narrow lens of whether it's "woke" or not, however you're defining it today (gay people existing in a movie? Oh the humanity!)

Top Gun killed at the box office not because it was explicitly "woke" or "anti-woke", but because it was a good movie.

The other two you mentioned, Strange World and Bros, I haven't haven't seen so I can't comment on them. Bros looked like a stupid comedy. Strange World looked visually entertaining but a little dumb too.

She Hulk was dumb but entertaining, and the fact that it made fun of all the incels and internet trolls and that it went completely over their heads was funny too.

And you're going on about Batgirl? A movie no one's seen apart from the studio execs who killed it before its release, and you're assuming that because it's a female lead its "woke" and bad by default like a true incel.

I'm sure you'd prefer to only watch movies that were populated by giga-chads who look like this, and then brag to all your homies about how hetero you are.

Not just the movie, the race-swap TV series as well. Also cancelled. I did see a few minutes of that. So woke it hurt.

You seem to think that because the studio didn't dare put the movie in front of an audience we know nothing about it.

Let me help you with that. From the Daily Mail:

$1:
Some have alleged the [$90 million] film may have been scrapped rather than released for tax reasons; Warner Bros can now claim Batgirl as a tax write-off — helping it recoup some of its costs elsewhere. However, that doesn't account for why the film was so bad in the first place.

And here there are certainly strong clues to suggest that Batgirl was only the latest in a long and disastrous line of Hollywood films that have prioritised politically correct values over entertainment. As Robin might say, Holy Woke, Batman!

Fans will remember that in the original comics, Batgirl is the night-time alter ego of Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City's red-headed police commissioner Jim Gordon.

The star of the film was a little-known Afro-Latina singer-actress named Leslie Grace. This alone was a big risk as 27-year-old Grace's only previous major acting role was in the box-office flop In The Heights, a 'musical drama' made by woke hero Lin-Manuel Miranda, the man behind the musical Hamilton.

The film was directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, young Moroccan-Belgians best known for the TV series Ms Marvel, about a Muslim Pakistani-American teenage girl who is bullied at school until she develops superpowers.

When Ms Marvel was released in June, it received a tsunami of abuse from comic book fans complaining about its unbearable wokeness.

(The series is made by Disney, so progressive nowadays that it applies racism warnings to the crows in Dumbo and offers a children's show — called 'Baymax!' — which features a scene in which a robot asks a transgender man what sort of sanitary product he should buy for a 12-year-old girl.)

Batgirl's screenplay was by Christina Hodson, the British writer of ultra-feminist film Birds Of Prey, accused by one critic of 'hating on men — all men . . . [and] dull to the point of numbing'.

Batgirl also featured a transgender character, Alysia Yeoh, Barbara Gordon's flatmate, played by the trans actor Ivory Aquino.

The appearance, critics say, is of a film putting its 'progressive' values ahead of all other concerns.

See that last line that's what it's really about. Some of my favorites from last year were loaded with woke but they didn't let it override the story or the characters.

Hell, I even liked this one called Motherland: Fort Salem. In that one there's an alternate reality where witches make up the armed forces. It follows 3 female recruits as they work their way through basic to eventually save the world. It's silly but surprisingly decent writing, fun concepts and conviction from the actresses saves it. I loved it as a guilty pleasure. I watched all 3 seasons. One of the major subplots involved one of the girl's lesbian relationship.

Oh and here's one that just seemed to have broke today:

$1:
The gay Netflix series Uncoupled, starring Neil Patrick Harris, has been canceled after a single season thanks to low viewer interest.

Sorry, Xerxes. Gotta Run.

I'm about to start The Last of Us.

Hope they didn't ruin it by going woke.

Actually, I'm pretty sure she's Latino. Supposed to be, anyway.

(Or I think you guys have switched to Latinx now, haven't you? Even though the Latinos don't like it.)

Makes sense though. The Mandalorian actor is Latino, I think, so his daughter would be as well.

Hey, the Mandalorian and Lyanna Mormont. What inspired casting. It works. They're great in this.

The little race swap worked too. I don't see anybody complaining too strenuously about this one.

Overall it stays pretty close to script. If they keep it at this level and stay away from the woke this might turn out to be the best video game to TV or even movie ever.

I'll be surprised, shocked even if this doesn't get raves. Critics might pan it but I see it getting audience scores in the 90s.

Hang on, I'll check.

With all these positive reviews, The Last of Us has set a new record for being the highest ever score achieved for a live-action video game adaption on Rotten Tomatoes.

Oh and you're right about the girl who plays Sarah.

Know who her mother is? Thandiwe Newton. The black android from Westworld. Actually Thandiwe is half English and half Zimbabwaen. So her daughter would be a quarter African.

Doesn't matter Sarah/Joel in the series comes off as a Latino father/daughter thing to me and I'm fine with it.

Scape @ Mon Jan 16, 2023 1:17 am

The $804 is funny but the fact that the very thing Gina railed against in the culture war was typecasting of a strong female lead where all the males are cast as bad, incompetent and evil and the female has no development arc such as Captain Marvel.

Is the exact thing she plays in this flick.

When she got called out on that on twitter all she could do was rage. Now I am sick of the culture wars but I detest the feckless and cowardly whataboutism in deflection. Zero standards except tribalism. No self awareness.

I get that the SJW stuff being shoved down peoples throats is abhorrent to some but so too is the racists tripe of tiki torch bearing misogynist bigots who can't stand anyone who doesn't think like them.

xerxes @ Mon Jan 16, 2023 3:50 am

The Last of Us was great. Stuck largely to the story with only minor deviations to flesh out characters stories. Casting is spot on so far.
