What isn't being watched or purchased because of characters in it?
Yeah, so what? Now we're going to call people 'racist' and 'sexist' because they don't care to play a game with the SJW version of WW2? Or see a movie that takes a well-known character and 'reimagines' it into something else?
How about just create a new game or a new character and piss off exactly no one?

A couple 'Call of Duties' ago, you had to pay extra for female avatars. Same for WarZ. Didn't go over well with the ladies I play games with.
The recent CoD - WWII - has female characters by default. No one seemed to care over the past year or so.

Battlefield 5 is trying substantial character customization. I think that's what was being advertised in it. Make your character whatever you want.
Since when is customization a bad thing? Also, pretty disrespectful to the women who participated, in combat, in WW2. There weren't many, but they were there.

Where has that happened? Unless we're talking about Zack Snyder fucking up superman and made him a brooding sad sap.

That's literally impossible.

It would seem so, wouldn't it?
Then I suppose we have to eventually brace ourselves for a two meter tall black Latvian transvestite portraying a rebellious and promiscuous Queen Elizabeth II in the edgy, gangsta rap musical version of her life story.

You seem to think that I am incapable of continuing to be a fan of the past, while being completely apathetic to the current or future
My time, when my 'fandom' was created...is still there. Got the sets I want in my private collection. I read them at my will and leisure.
The new stuff, is for new fans. That will be between the current generation and the content creators.
In my opinion, old fans trying to force replication of the past, will just create a monotonous environment...sure enough to kill the industry faster than any new content (good or bad) will.
As far as the comic book industry is concerned, the new fans simply aren't there in significant numbers. Characters like Kamala Khan AKA the new Ms. Marvel enjoy editorial protection because she is a self-insert of one of Marvel Entertainment's VPs. She's not really that popular, but a bunch of executives want the audience to believe that she is the best thing since Spider-Man.
I'm getting that vibe from the Captain Marvel film because Marvel lacks a female character as iconic as Wonder Woman. Kevin Feige has already stated that Captain Marvel is a) going to be the most powerful character in the MCU, and b) going to be the face of the post-"Avengers 4"universe. The big problem with that is Brie Larson demonstrated that she lacks the charisma of Robert Downey Jr. and the likability of the Chrises (Evans and Hemsworth) in the trailer. It looks like Marvel Studios wants Carol to be their version of Rei from the Star Wars sequels: and overpowered character with no personality traits and shallow motivations. Not the kind of character you want to be the face of the company.

I always thought "Jean Grey" filled that role. One of the most powerful characters, and an iconic female lead.
They only touched on her in the movies, but in the comics her being 'Phoenix' ended an entire solar system.

When their operating budgets suffer, they can change or go the way of the dino.

Disney's inability to stick with the older (better, imho) story lines is why I haven't invested much in the current cinematic universe.
However, my investment choice is where I full stop. There is no need to go after individuals (actors/producers/etc.). That is between them and their employer, and the direction their employer wants to go.

That's because the people running the x-men franchise fucked it up and couldn't continue it properly.
But there is a dark phoenix movie coming out next year.

How was Captain Marvel? You must have seen it to draw those conclusions.

I am extrapolating from I see from the trailer, which was a bland and incoherent mess. Hell, Samuel L. Jackson has more dialogue than Larson does in, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. First impressions count and there was nothing that made me want to spent $15 to go see it. The article I read Entertainment Weekly said that Carol was funny and flawed, but the trailer failed to show any of that. SHOW, don't TELL, and the a two-minute trailer couldn't even do that. Compare that to other MCU entries like Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War, which at least set a tone and piqued my interest.
Additionally, statements from Larson, the cast, and production team give me flashbacks to the publicity for the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, and we know how that turned out.

You can extrapolate how good a 140 minute movie is going to be by a 2 minute trailer? And decide that the main character is bland through out the entire thing?
That's impressive.

I agree that the movie will probably suck but in all fairness trailers can be terribly deceptive.
Yes, I know that's a parody.
I'm looking forward to the "Lion King" and "Dumbo"...
