Wellllll…since someone reanimated the thread…I’m not sure there’s much tangible evidence that exists (no, that is in large part to the Western Church’s crusade) to suggest that the Albigensians possessed Grail relics (remember, Brown’s book is fiction and “Holy Blood, Holy Grail” is hardly great history either). They did practice a brand of Gnosticism (with Marcionism and Manichaeism sprinkled about) that ran in the face of the dogmatic practices of the Western Church, and while that doesn’t justify the Pope’s intolerance, inquisition or its subsequent religious genocide, it also doesn’t mean that the Cathars were guardians of dangerous relics either.

What they possessed was not a physical item but the knowledge of Christ's humanity. He was not divine, and that knowledge was dangerous to the Catholic Church back then.

I will see it. 8)

I can't wait to see it, although I'm sure it would never live up to the book. May 19th baby!

kitty @ Wed May 10, 2006 6:31 pm

Movies are hardly ever as good as the book but that won't stop me from seeing this movie.

canucker @ Sat May 20, 2006 1:56 am

Anyone seen this one yet? I heard it wasn't very good....

bossdog @ Sat May 20, 2006 2:00 am

Where I live, in the Pittsburgh area, a Church actually bought and gave out 200 tickets to the movie. They said, "As long as they're talking about God, we're happy". Wow!

The reviews from the people around here are:

(have read the book) - it was okay. it was entertaining

(haven't read the book) - it was a good movie

I saw it last night and it suuuuuuuuuuuucked! I didnt like the book as much as most people, but the good thing abotu it was that everythign wasn't super obvious. In the movie you could always see the bad guy coming around the corner and they hinted so much at what was happening it was pathetic. I checked my watch 100000000 times waiting for it to end.

Blue_Nose @ Sat May 20, 2006 5:34 am

Yeah, but you didn't like Domino, Z, so I wouldn't take your opinion too seriously!

Zoraja @ Sat May 20, 2006 5:35 am

Domino was okay but a little pathetic, this was only a little better than that.

MrMarch @ Sat May 20, 2006 9:38 am

Failing to enjoy a film like Dominio sounds like a plus in my book. As for the Da Vinci Code, I'll probably see it today. I'm not expecting much, but I hope it's a little better than most of the homogenized crap that infects the theatres each summer.

Yeah well, your 'book' probably has a second grade reading level

Two words as to why it had to have been a great film: Tom Waits.

QED.

I went and saw the movie last night. Seeing many reivews and ratings saying it wasn't good I went in with very low expectations.

But i have to say I really liked the movie, I though tit as well done. I am one of the few that has not readthe book, but know a lot about the subject through many documentaries I have watched about the subject matter and the different secret orders mentioned in the film.

CAll me what you like, but from what I have seen, I believe in a lot of it. The movie itself is a work of fiction, but a lot of it I believe comes from fact.

Strangly something I never knew, or had forgotten was the whole bit about Constantine and the council to make the bible to unify the remains of the Roman Empire.
I found this site with some more info about this
http://www.deism.com/biblevotes.htm

Ihave a crazy thought though... what if the Dan Brown is part of the Priory of Sion and this was there way to reveal the Holy Grail to the world. Maybe they could not produce the dna blood line evidence because it was lost, so this was there next best way in our modern age. A 40million+ and counting super success Book and no a block buster movie. Just a thought, ha
