This entire problem could be quickly solved if pot were legalized.

I'm not sure I understand how.

What is the relation between pot and Liberal leaders from Quebec?

Inside joke.

I would love to see good leader material from BC, Atlantic Canada or any of the Territories. The likely hood of such a thing happening seems to be low. As pointed out the vast majority of our population is in Ontario and Quebec so that's often where our leaders come from.

That's a pretty mild post for you to assume that the author has "issues". I think I've seen articles in mainstream newspapers that have raised some of the same points.

Ten years ago, I would have bet that Brian Tobin would one day a prime minister. He'd be an ideal candidate for either party because he's fiscally conservative but liberal on social issues.

Frank McKenna would have had a good shot too.

Brian would have been a better choice for leader of the Liberals than any of the last three, but time has past him by now. An equivalent seems to be missing at the moment. Or it might be they are below the media radar. Several leadership conventions have been won by an individual that came up the middle through the two front runners. Perhaps the Liberal party will be lucky and have the next leader be someone the public can support.

Jambo goes off a lot like this on Québec issues. He's an Anglo living in Québec and seems to have a lot of problems getting along. That what I get from some of his posts, he thinks that every French speaking Québeker hates him and wants him out.

You may want to look at his posting history.

What have you got against the Prairie provinces? "someone has issues"

Brad Wall would make a great PM. The only one who scares me from the Pp is REDford. She thinks she is PM material with her grooming from Joe Clark and her service at the UN.

Maybe she should resign from the Premiership and run for the LPC leadership.

That would really screw up Canadian politics.

Caelon Caelon:
We have had Harper, Clark, Kim Campbell (2 months) and Diefenbaker from the west and the rest have been mostly Ontario and Quebec. The majoritiy of our population resides in those two provinces so representatives from there stand the greatest chance of having sufficient support to rise to leader of the party.

Really? We haven't had a PM from Ontario since Lester B Pearson. 44 years and counting. Since then the west has had three PM's and Quebec four.

If you want to look at all 22 PM's over Canadian history;

2 were MP's (or senators) from the Maritimes
5 were MP's (or senators) from Ontario.
7 were MP's (or senators) from Quebec.
8 were MP's (or senators) from the West.

Two PM's weren't sitting in either house (Tupper and Turner) and were not counted and some PM's changed ridings and could be counted in more than one category (King and Macdonald held seats in the West and Ontario).

Except for Stephen Harper, who may represent Calgary but is certainly "from Ontario".

If you want to go by region of birth rather than riding that changes things drastically.

Scotland - 2
England - 2
Maritimes - 4
Ontario - 6
Québec - 6
West - 2

I was just saying. Diefenbaker was born in Ontario, but grew up out west, so I'd call him a "westerner". Harper was born and raised in Ontario and moved west as an adult.
