Harper Thinks Middle Income People Earn $90,000
December 05, 2005
Conservative leader Stephen Harper today told the media:
"I tend to think of you know people up to 80 to 90 thousand dollars as being middle income in this day and age … I don’t think most people would consider $70,000 to be high income." (Stephen Harper, December 5, 2005)
Fact:
The average adult wage in Canada is just under $32,000, according to Statistics Canada.
And the average household income at $64,900, well below Harper’s $90,000 definition of what it means to be "middle income in this day and age."
We now understand why Harper’s recent policy announcements on the GST and child care favour higher income Canadians.
He actually thinks he's aiming at the middle!
Just another example of how disconnected Harper and the Conservatives are from main street Canadians.

Now I am a Conservative, but I have to say, what an almighty cock up from Harper. Seems like he's poorly advised.

Oh, baby.. If they buy this one.. they'll buy anything"
Paul Martin says.
As I said before: Can you quote a reference or did you just make that up?
Here is a little tip...
Fact: The CPC isn't terribly fond of the Kyoto Accord.
Fact: Humans, despite what some people will say, ARE responsible for global warming.
Fact: When the ice caps melt, kiss your ass goodbye PEI...
Depending on how bad it gets, we can also say goodbye to most of Halifax, Montreal, alot of east coast cities and towns.....is that a good thing?
So now we need to vote Liberal or everyone in PEI is going to die?
Please put that one in print.

Please tell me where in this post I said vote Liberal or PEI is going down?
You assume too much...

The ice caps will melt, flooding PEI because "people ARE responsible for global warming" and that will happen if the Kyoto gets scrapped. Since the CPC are against the Kyoto, they must want PEI to sink.
If that's not you're line of thinking, then please tell what you were thinking because it sounds pretty obvious to me.
I assumed that 1+1+1=3 but Fiberal math has 1+1+1 (-2 as a kickback) = CDN voters screwed again.

I'm thinking that people need to look at the bigger picture. But PEI ain't going anywhere soon....Thank God. It's also a stab at the CPC, although the Libs aren't exactly trying to cut down emissions as much as they say they are.

And that would be???........................
ridenrain ridenrain:
Since the CPC are against the Kyoto, they must want
Yes similar logic to asking why "Liberals hate seniors"

And what has good has 12 years of Graft done for the seniors.
Te answer can be written on the back of a dime in foot high letters.

The guy really is clueless.... Or maybe just completely incompetent at hiding his agenda.
A link would be good, though...
70 thousand a year for a family is NOT a lot of money and puts them at the very bottom of the middle class.
I've been there, two of us making 35k with children, it's simply not a lot of money when you have kids, mortgage.
I think he's smack on. 70 is not high income for a family.

Sure thing.
Even 70 thou is a higher family income than the national average, according to the article. And still that does not meet Harper's definition which he arbitrarily pegs at 80-90 grand.
Says a lot about the guy's priorities...
