Don't know who, have to wait for CPC platform. But I want:
Military funding
Debt Reduction
Health care fixin'
Economic competency
Not a loony

Pimpbrewski @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 7:46 pm

Thanos Thanos:
Tax-cuts for families and small business jerks (like me!:D)

The funny thing is that I have not heard anyone talk about that in the debates unless I missed it. Small business should be the strong point of our economy or at least part of it.

Man pretty soon, I should listen to the media here and be voting for the Bloc Quebecois since I don't have a fucking clue of what I am talking about (in regards to another thread). ROTFL

Seriously, in order to stay on topic, I forgot to mention spending for our military in my previous post. So thanks to all that have mentioned it. That's a very good point.

Reverend Blair @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:17 pm

Small business gets a break under both the NDP and Liberal platforms. Not sure about the Greens.

Wally_Sconce @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:21 pm

One of my priorities is to avoid eating green shit.

ziggy @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:24 pm

Small bussiness gets a break under the cons, maternity leaves and other goodies will now be paid for through the EI fund for small buss. owners.Kind of even's thing's up with the regular workers. Now maternity leave is available to those who choose to work for themselves, compassionate leave also.

Wally_Sconce @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:27 pm

it about time. Small business owner and often their family have had to pay into the fund for years, meanwhile the Liberals had the regulations so that you couldn't collect unemployment if you employer was a family member.

One hand taking, the other hand not giving in time of need.

ziggy @ Fri Oct 03, 2008 8:31 pm

Now if a family member need's you by during their last days you can take time off work for it.

MegAlberta @ Sat Oct 04, 2008 7:27 am

So does this mean that they will have to pay into EI again? My Mother owns a small business, she doesn't pay EI so she can't collect from it. I really doubt she wants to start paying into EI again so she can get Maternity leave! ( she's over 50) Plus, she can take off what she needs if she has to as it is now. I hope this is not the case.

I don't really care who wins, as long as the opposition is strong enough to be a counter balance. I'm a Liberal at heart, but I'd vote CPC to get rid of the Bloc, but my riding is overwhelmingly Liberal, so no point to that. I think the Harper minority government has been doing a good job.

A Canadian conservative is a lot closer to an American Democrat than a Republican, so I don't understand all the fear mongering.

On another note, Harper was awful during the French debate, he was condescending and smug. I hope he didn't blow it.

Streaker @ Sat Oct 04, 2008 8:08 am

Getting Canada to formulate a made-in-Canada foreign policy, and the protection and reinforcement of Canadian sovereignty.

The NDP is the only party willing to do that.

Harper was awful in the English debate as well...coincidentally, condescending and smug. Often he countered facts with "that's not true" or a stupid 'I'm caught and I don't know what to say' look. He also liked to say "we are helping this and helping that and helping this' dog and that's cat" just like his first budget...2 cents for everyone and a lot of flowery looking things with a lot of hidden stuff in there too.

$300 million for an election and still giving big money to big oil...I'm amazed that people aren't flocking away from him.

Military spending, our % of GDP going to the military is embarrassing low. we're at 18 b now for spending and this should be in the 35-40 range (Italy is at 40 b right now for comparison). In the 21st century military technology is becoming increasingly expensive and this money is needed to help build up the military to the size and strength it once was. Defense and military capabilities should always be one of your top expenses as a world leader. I hear way to often people talking about our "traditional" role of peacekeeping and that's a load of shit, peacekeeping is a nice way of saying we'll starve the military of spending and resources so that the only thing they can do is "peacekeeping", not to mention we've had far more combat history than pussy UN flawed peacekeeping missions. It is no coincidence that around the sametime we became a "peacekeeping" nation is the same time the military was raped of everything by the government. Canada as a G8 country and one of the most capable and wealthy countries in the world should have the strength to enter any conflict when called upon and be the decider. We're on the right track right now, but have a ways to go.

I am voting for the CPC:

1. Harper doesnt play favorites with the regions!
2. Strong Leadership willing to do the best for our country
3. Sovereignty- Harper visited the North more in 3 years than the libs did in 15
4. Economy, less taxes and less government is a good thing
5. Jack Layton while being charismatic is a too left-wing
6. Stephane Dion cant speak english so he would only damage our international reputation.

The $50 billion in tax cuts would go to corporations like Telus, Rogers, Bell and others who already use their clout to coerce favour from gov'ts, and use it against my small business and others.
I just heard from one of them crying that our contract could not be renegotiated as it had 'cost them so much to implement', yet know full well their capital cost was provided by $58 million federal tax dollars (some of them mine).
They'd like you to believe 'small business' benefits under the Tories, but in reality we'd benefit most if customers had more disposable cash in their pocket. That's something cutting income tax rather than the GST would have delivered.

The other 150 billion in tax cuts went to everyday Canadians.
