Incredibly weak? They are tied with Harper, I beg to differ. The NDP is regional how many seats have they held in Quebec or Alberta? When was the last time the NDP won Ontario in a federal election? They are doing good but they are still just 20% and a I grant they have pull in major population centres and the Yukon they don't spread far from there. Has there even been an election where the NDP won at least one seat in every province and territory?

Sorry, the NDP have a shot at being far more then they every have before in this election but they are no where near what the Liberals are now even in this incredibly weak position as you claim. I don't share that same sediment.

Also, you are right about Harper being petty but that is not an issue that really matters to the vast majority that cast a ballot. I grant that it should but ultimately that dog don't hunt if you try to milk that as an central issue it comes off as partisan. Politicians are given a pass on vanity as long as the country itself isn't a flaming ruin. He isn't doing himself any favors when he does that but when your opponent is busy setting himself on fire why go looking for a fire hose? Get the marshmallows but making it an issue just briings you down to their level.

Not much money, party infighting, a leader who made the huge political mistake of allowing the opposition to define him. Yeah, they've been incredibly weak. It's to their credit...and anybody who thinks that Dion can't lead should consider this...that they've been able to stay in the game at all. Hell, a week ago there were lots of people, from all across the political spectrum including the back rooms of the Liberal Party, predicting their imminent demise, now they could win a minority government.

Hey, all I said was that the NDP has always been there. Sometimes they take some Liberal seats, sometimes they take some Conservative ones. They aren't new though...haven't been for quite some time.

If Harper was as strong as he is purported to be, if he really was the smartest guy in the room and all of that, he would be heading for a majority. He isn't and it's all on his head.

I think it's time for the NDP to change leaders. Jack just isn't getting it done.

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:03 pm

Jack's doing just fine, Riden. Better than Steve, anyway.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:12 pm

How long has he been leading the "New" democratic party.. and where has it gone?

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:24 pm

He's raised both the seat count and the popular vote in every election he's been NDP leader in, and gotten the party in the best financial shape ever.

Harper has just blown an election where he was supposed to get a majority government.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:29 pm

Lol. Layton was in power when Svend Robinson was still swiping candy.
No question.. You guys have a winner on you're hands.
You guys hang onto him for a long , long time. :D

I think Dion is a bigger fumble for you guys now than Harper.
With Dion, we might as well bring back Stockwell Day :D

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:33 pm

Well, Harper won't admit it, but all indications are that he shares Stockboy's belief that Barney Rubble used to ride a dinosaur around with Moses.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:39 pm

So what?? There were rumors that one of the Liberal MP's said that his victory was a triumph for Islam. That couldn't be proven so we all let it slide. Is that any better?

Is he using his office to impose his views? No.
Get over it. Its not a hook any more.

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:50 pm

He is using his office to impose his views though, Riden. His attacks on science and the arts ore pretty good examples of that. The teen sex laws point that way too.

There are no where as high a percentage of religious fundamentalists in the other parties and those that do exist are kept in check by the party. With the Conservatives the religious fundamentalists have a huge amount of influence.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 10:55 pm

Do you want to say that raising the age of concent was a bad idea and only because of Day's Chritian religion? Do remember that the party that prides itself on being the paty of the immigrant was shot in the foot when they forgot that many of the people they were bringing in also had strong christian views.

You say that Day was using his office to push his views.. Prove that.

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 11:03 pm

With the age of consent law, why is anal sex set higher than vaginal sex? Why was McVety bragging...including dropping Stockwell Day's name several times...when the tax laws for movies got changed? Why was the science advisor fired? Why is there a religious fundamentalist appointed to the scientific ethics committee?

They haven't quite reached the blatant insanity of the Republicans in the US yet, Riden, but they are headed that way.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 11:09 pm

Wow .. what a broadside of crap.
Somewhere along the line, the definition of proof has been lost.

I still don't see where Day used his god powers to change the laws.
Don't laws need to be voted on in parliament then in the senate?
Don't the Liberals already dominate the senate thanks to all those Liberal appointments?

Do you want me to send some aluminum foil to you in care of youre website?

Reverend Blair @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 11:18 pm

I wasn't talking about Stockboy specifically, Riden. i was talking about the influence of right-wing fundamentalist beliefs on the Harper government. those are all examples of it.

Why has the Harper government not disavowed itself from MvVety if he has no influence? How come the hired Darrell Reid from Focus on the Family to work for Ambrose? How come Rob Anders wasn't fired for suggesting that only Christians deserve aid?

There is example after example after example of the Christian right (with other fundamentalist religious types riding on their coattails) having an undue amount of influence in the Harper government.

ridenrain @ Thu Oct 09, 2008 11:24 pm

If all you do is blow shit like a snow blower, then I'll simply ignore you but you choose to debate with the grown ups so I give you the chance.

Why did you say:

"
Well, Harper won't admit it, but all indications are that he shares Stockboy's belief that Barney Rubble used to ride a dinosaur around with Moses.
"

Are you talking about real people or some imaginary boogymen then?
