Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

I still can't figure out the dialogue game. I realize I have to get the large pieces towards the best parts, but it just seems random. Is their a trick to get the best pieces where you want them?

ok finaly got the thieves guild done, tried waited again and worked this time. I'm lvl 6 now, saving up for a house at 5000 gold so far.
