Having just entered the ranks of the non-smoking (two weeks, so far so good) I was wondering about other peoples dealings with quitting the evil weed!
As an avid runner, and a bit of an exercise nut I always thought somehow that the little bit of smoking I was doing wasn't "that bad" as I was extremely active. Well, within the first week I could not believe some of the stuff I coughed out of me, which surprised me because I never suffered from "smokers cough" ever! Suffice to say it was a real eye-opener!
The other thing I am curious about is how others dealt with "nicotine withdrawl", or if they even had any. I was "only" a half pack a day smoker and so far I have had zero cravings, none, zippo, zilch, you get the point! I attribute that to the fact that between running, working out, working and home renovations, I have no time to think about cravings!
The last point is I have already noticed a marked increase in lung capacity (tested every other day) and times for my average run have dropped markedly! I am seriously considering doing the K-town triathalon later this year to see how much my time has decreased since last year, but I think the wife has other plans for this summer, something about Italy and the Med around August.
Look forward to everyones input.
Some people are not actually addicted to the nicotine so you might be a lucky one and have a really easy time with it. Gl.
I smoked about half a pack a day, my first smoke was in grade 7, my last was when I was 23.I woke up at 3:00am to get ready for a day of fly fishing, my mothly friend was a little late so I did a test before my shower, came out and saw I was pregnant. That was the day I quit smoking!
How do you get up at 3, I often go to bed later than that!
Do you fish? You go when the fishing is good.
Quit about 9 months ago. Smoked 5 Old Port cigars per day.
Same as 2Cdo had no cravings, but could not find things for my hands to do, especially whilst sipping on a pint at the pub.
Now cannot stand the smell of cigarettes.
Only problem was a little weight gain, so changed my eating habits and joined a karate club.
Lung capacity is way up. I can outdo the whippersnappers at my karate club.
I used to love those Colt cigars, I never cared much for the filter tip, I used to rip them off.
2 Cdo: Well done you!
21 days is all it takes for the nic to leave the bod. After that it's the brain trying to get you to give in. I quit 5 years ago and didn't miss it. Mrs SprCForr quit at the same time. It's time to paint the walls and detail the car to get rid of the stink. That'll occupy your time for a bit!
You're doing great! Keep it up. Like Red Green says: I'm pullin' for ya!
You can fish all day. Well, I use to be able to!
I'm not a smoker, but I just want to say:
for quitting!
it has been 12 days for me, smoked since i was 14 and never tried quitin till now, i'm just tired of it.
Paint your walls and detail yer truck is so true, once the smell is out of your space it is much easier.
Good for you guys for quitting!
I know it takes a lot of effort... I watched my dad and my grandmother kick the habit.
