Why peanuts shouldn't be banned in schools

Look, I am not going to bother because this will go nowhere.
dodge, you know there is no winning this for you.
There is nothing wrong with peanuts.

Yes it's a conspiracy that some kids die from peanut allergies eh?

I have to carry an epi-pen at all times for my allergy...why is it people dont carry it for nut allergies?
They do.
Two of my student's are SEVERELY allergic to nuts and I make sure they always have theres.
Then I dont see why a ban is necessary then. I know that it sucks, giving yourself a shot and then having to go to hospital I do it at least once a month...damn perfumed people, but a lot of people eat nuts to supplement their diet.
ngignac ngignac:
And you guys don't realize. These are kids we are talking about. Adults may be more aware of their surroundings but kids touch everything and often touch their mouthes without thinking twice about it.
Yeah because we were never kids,
and
OH you're a teacher, that explains it all

What if someone is vegetarian, you going to screw them out of an excellent source of protein?
Actually I don't care either way.
Lol. Yes, a teacher........... O no a liberal nutjob
I appreciate everyone else keeping this conversation mature.
I consider myself more of a libertarian politics wise, but when we are talking about kids I don't care. Kid's are under our care. If something happens who gets the blame?
We do.

I am pretty sure 99% of all the parents are GLAD that the schools are respectful to those 3 students special needs. Maybe you should send your kids to another school, where the parents are inconsiderate and close-minded.
And by the way if your kid were having a BAD allergic reaction all the Epipen would do is buy them time.
Have you ever seen someone have a BAD allergic reaction? Does it bother you that much that you have to change one LITTLE thing, that could potentially save a kids life. Come on, you can't be serious can you?
You didn't read.
I said 2 kids had a peanut allergy. Not 3.
Second, I live in a small town, no other school here.
Third, my kids face will swell up from face paint.
Fourth, bee-sting allergy... BAN BEES!!!!

You do, because you're a teacher. Don’t lump me in this because if it was up to me they'd be isolated if it's that important.
LOL Hwacker....your joking right.
And Brenda by simply talking to the school they would be more than likely to make sure there is none of that paint in the school and more then likely send out a letter to the other parents in the class explaining how one of their classmates has a serious allergy and not to use that specific type of face paint on Halloween.
Would you be against that?

The policy(in the works then) where I taught in Manitoba was, no epi pen you can't come to school.
Don't remember any kids dying when I went to school and then peanut butter sandwiches and cookies were common. The only person I knew of that dies of a peanut reaction was a girl who went to highschool with my sister....after eating a granola bar

There is a big difference between a nut allergy and a peanut allergy. That's like saying because I'm allergic to gluten you can't have eggs in the school.

When I enrolled my kids in this school last year, I had to fill out forms. Of course I put it in there. I was asked to make sure she has band aids with her that she is not allergic to, and the face paint, well, her teacher knows about it, so her face will not be painted.
EXCUSE ME!!! There are over 400 people in that school. They interact, right? She knows she is allergic, so she has said NO numerous times to kids who wanted to do her a favour and paint her face on a couple occasions.
Shep, ANYTHING with peanuts is banned in our school. Even granolabars that may contain residues of peanuts.
Sorry to hear about the girl who went to school with your sister.
But bringing up that topic, in high school I don't think a ban is needed because kids are more likely to carry around their Epipen and are more knowledgeable/mature when it comes to the allergy.
My point was that eating a granola bar when you know you have a peanut allergy is pretty stupid

no I am not joking
